Director of Marketing

Shoonya Kids - Remote - Full time

Join a small and passionate team of designers, educators, and engineers at Shoonya Digital, an award-winning, game-based technology platform for children to learn foundational language curriculum through culturally diverse characters, content, and activities. Shoonya is the fastest-growing culturally-relevant language learning app with hundreds of immersive activities for learning alphabets and vocabulary words in Hindi, Marathi, English, Spanish, and Telugu.

EdTech is one of the fastest growing sectors globally and Shoonya is a rapidly growing EdTech startup seeking a highly experienced, hands-on and energetic individual to join our team as the Director of Marketing.

This position is our first in-house marketing hire and we are looking for a superstar that can think strategically to build long-term brand value, and operate tactically to achieve measurable results in user acquisition and retention. The person will be able to grow his/her team as the company scales.

While being responsible for overseeing all of our marketing and communication strategy, the ideal candidate should possess excellent leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to drive brand awareness and growth in a consumer facing company. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Manager of Communications, Marketing, or a promising Director who is looking to make the next leap up in their career.

We are looking for someone who loves startups, gets excited about growth, and who loves to experiment with campaigns, build attribution to it and can do it with a founders' mindset.

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of demand generation and user retention.
  • Implement marketing campaigns and strategic plans that achieve business priorities and drive leads.
  • Reduce our Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) while growing our marketing pipeline. Steer all brand strategy and product marketing strategy.
  • Identifying ideal partnerships and overseeing outreach campaigns to drive organic growth.
  • Building and implementing an SEO strategy.
  • Maintaining a weekly marketing dashboard and advising the Leadership and Product Teams of key market trends, user insights, etc.
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders and external resources to ensure efficiency in marketing investment.

Requirements/ Must Have:

  • 5+ years of marketing and growth leadership experience having successfully delivered results driving brand awareness and growth in B2C companies.
  • A portfolio of successful campaigns and experience conceiving, developing, and leading all aspects of Marketing, Social, and PR communication ideas throughout their full cycle.
  • A clear understanding of building campaigns and attributions by tracking and optimizing CAC metrics every week.  
  • Ability to build growth strategy and implement measurable campaigns, reporting KPIs with a dashboard tracking CAC. 
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of current trends in the marketplace.
  • A track record of achieving results with ideas rather than large budgets and an ability to take on an iterative approach to test and scale campaigns.
  • The ability to build compelling narratives and tell a story about a brand
  • Strong leadership courage and the ability to make difficult decisions.
  • Passion for our mission to bring cultural representation to language learning for children.
  • Experience with mobile apps and subscription services.
  • Experience with WordPress to maintain the website.
  • Should be available to travel for Conferences.

Nice to Have:

  • Working with an iOS app and running campaigns to draw traffic to an iOS app.
  • A passion for language and culture.
  • Interest in the EdTech space and experience working with EdTech apps
  • A creative eye and solution oriented approach to problem solving.
