A LITTLE ABOUT YOU:

As our Director of Language Programs, we expect you to come with an unorthodox and radical approach to language learning that combines linguistic expertise, entrepreneurial hustle and performance-driven start-up experience. When we say break the rules and push boundaries, we mean it. We are ready to throw away teaching the gender of nouns, and you should be too.

You should also be very comfortable working under tight deadlines within a performance-driven culture. In this role you will develop highly scalable, results-focused training programs for a national network of 200+ teachers, create highly innovative programs driven by brand experience versus methodology and be the leader driving the execution of a very ambitious vision for a high-growth early stage start-up.

This experience could manifest in a few ways:

  • After a couple of years in traditional institutions, you decided to kick the academia bucket and work for tech-driven enterprises on their product or marketing team
  • After your linguistic degree, you took a job with an early stage start-up, where you consistently exceeded KPIs and set them for large teams that contributed to exponential growth for the company.
  • You could also have been inspired by your fitness instructor's teaching style, which drove you to develop a new approach to language learning that disrupted the market
  • Maybe you landed a guest speaker slot at a national conference or featured in Inc. or TechCrunch for ventures you’ve lead (i.e. created your own website about language learning, developed a toolkit for online or tech-driven language instruction, etc.)
  • You took a break from linguistics after college, joined TFA for a couple years, then got your MBA so you could learn how to start your own language business

YOUR BACKGROUND:

5-7 years of combined experience in adult language teaching and senior management in a start-up work environment

Expertise in global language accreditation standards and certifications. You know your acronyms and the rules (to challenge and break) that go along with them.

The strategic vision and dare-devil approach to spearhead a highly innovative approach to language learning and material development. If you’re all about conjugation tables, vocabulary lists, and gendering nouns (yep, we said it), this role is NOT for you!

Demonstrated track record of developing and retaining a high-performance team and previously rolled out highly effective and innovative training programs in an educational environment

Strong facilitation and communications skills, with an ability to leverage working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds

You are fluent in at least 3 languages across all 4 skills, with clear evidence of a high level of linguistic competence

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Infrastructure: Radically reinvent our current language programs and curricula in a way that pushes boundaries and drives meaningful growth and revenue

Program Design and Development: Deliver creative, outside the box, teacher-driven programming that is tech supported and provides top-level instructor talent (equal parts entertainment, hospitality and education)

Leadership and Management: Inspire, train and motivate the team around a common vision that demands a best-in-class experience and pushes boundaries. Provide strong leadership, mentorship and professional development plans for our recruitment and academic teams

Data and Analytics: Work closely with our Director of Product and Operations to update key metrics that support continual and iterative improvement of our programs via recruitment, training, teacher performance and student experience

Process and Performance Evaluation: Implement aggressive quality control processes and standards for teacher hiring and evaluation

THE PERKS

Based in our headquarters in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Competitive salary based on experience

Equity grant component in an early stage, fast growth, start-up

Paid unlimited vacation, plus holidays

Benefits package that includes: health, dental, long and short-term disability and life insurance
