Director of K-12 Curriculum, Standards, Alignment and Instruction

Under the direction of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of K-12 Curriculum, Standards, Alignment and Instructionis responsible for all aspects of online content, curriculum and assessments including course evaluation, sourcing, curation and in-house course development. In addition to content and curriculum for teachers and students, the Director of K-12 Curriculum, Standards, Alignment and Instruction is responsible for content used for professional development and teacher training. The Director of K-12 Curriculum, Standards, Alignment and Instruction carries out operating policies and procedures with a focus on online course development, teacher training and mentoring. The Director ensures the accessibility issues related to online instruction are addressed and comply with applicable regulations in addition to overseeing the planning, training, implementation and evaluation of learning products. The Director works across the School community to build awareness of the uses of curriculum and assessment to improve learning, and identify market opportunities for new online programs.

The Director manages the daily operations and support for online learning and instructional design. The Director is the lead in developing innovative technology use in online teaching for the School, working in collaboration with key stakeholders. The Director will build and maintain strategic, high-level relationships across the Curriculum, Content and Assessment provider market to leverage resources and maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and solutions within online learning.

The Director oversees all efforts related to Online Curriculum and Content and leads the expansion of courses and programs delivered wholly or partially online. The role has the potential to expand to include strategic planning and coordination of the development and delivery of technology enabled learning environments – online, hybrid, blended and face-to-face.


1. In collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, establish the vision and goals, and oversee the implementation of the K-12 school content and curriculum offering.

2. Plan, implement and manages the organization-wide online course development process including staff training, instructional design and quality course design reviews.

3. Design, implement, and manage curriculum programs, developing curriculums and digital academic resources.

4. Support the development of strategic offerings/initiatives, related policies and procedures and program promotion; ensure compliance with accessibility regulations.

5. Perform and/or coordinate consumer and market research to identify opportunities and user needs.

6. Manage vendors, contractors, and/or strategic partnerships to assist in developing programs and digital materials.

7. Conduct and/or coordinate reviews and evaluations of E-Learning programs and implement findings into program strategies.

8. Oversee Online Curriculum & Content administrative and financial tasks, managing budgets and project coordination.

9. Plan and oversee the implementation of teacher professional development programs relating to best practices in online teaching and other academic initiatives to support student success and completion.

10. Develop and implement plans that address accessibility in online instruction. This includes compliance with federal regulations, support and training for faculty in designing accessible course materials, problem-solving to address accommodation requests from students or faculty and adaptation of course materials.

11. Research, develop and facilitate quality training opportunities for new and continuing teachers in the use of technology in instruction.

12. Research and implement new instructional strategies to remain competitive in the delivery of education; research emerging technologies and their application to teaching and learning.

13. Evaluate student assessment data to determine common gaps, and make recommendations for new strategies, content and or supplemental materials to bridge those gaps.

14. Center efforts around an understanding of each school’s curriculum strategies, state standards, needs and desired outcomes to be gained from both online and offline content.

15. Demonstrate highly effective communication and balance multiple business demands, such as instructional integrity, budgetary requirements, informational technology staff and administrators, School staff, resource limitations, and tight project schedules, while maintaining a positive, collaborative, solution-oriented attitude.

16. Coordinate multiple, concurrent launch efforts utilizing a variety of rapid-development methodologies, variable resource pools, and development partners.

17. Provide instruction and support to end-users in the use of technological solutions and troubleshoots technologies as needed.

18. Implement a Quality Matters approach to ensure continuous improvement, incorporating best practices and identifying root causes to address issues as needed; maintains a focus on student success, high quality, and clear business processes.

19. Oversee customization and implementation of solutions, ensuring that the needs of the organization or the student and teacher target audience are met before, during and after each school semester.

20. Work hand in hand with IT staff to test and ensure proper course implementation into LMS.


The ability to communicate effectively with and to provide excellent support to K-12 teaching staff is critical to success in this position. The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is required, as is problem-solving, juggling multiple priorities, and working within set timeframes.

Knowledge of eLearning principles and practices;

Knowledge of Project Management principles and practices;

Konwledge of budget and contract management principles and practices;

Knowledge of current and emerging educational technology;

Knowledge of K-12 state standards, alignments and testing;

Knowledge of traditional and online (web-based) instructional delivery;

Analytical skills to interpret policies, research and compare alternative solutions;

Adaptability to innovation and new methodologies;

Ability to conduct online quality course design reviews and evaluate the quality of production materials and services;


Excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills;

Supervisory and leadership skills


Bachelor's Degree and 7 - 10 years of relevant experience

Master's Degree in Educational/Instructional Design or Technology strongly preferred

Strong project management skills and a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring delivery of consistent, quality products within established timelines

One or more years solid working knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), especially Canvas

Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, HTML/CSS and other basic client-side Web authoring skills, and video production for the web using Camtasia or similar tools

Demonstrated experience designing and adapting high quality, standards-based K-12 content for a variety of e-learning and web-based applications

Prior experience with K-12 classroom teaching or with leading technical training

Solid understanding of learning science principles, instructional design methodologies, approaches for evaluation and assessment, and current trends in teaching

Knowledge of alternative electronic delivery methods with attention to curriculum alignment and quality assessment
