Project Lead The Way - Remote - Full time

The Director of Instruction, Engineering leads a Team in the design and development of new and existing engineering curricular offerings as well as the creation and support of professional development for teachers. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Programs, this position works cross functionally to research, evaluate, design, and deliver world class learning experiences aligned to our strategic goals and trainings that best prepare teachers and students for success. The Director of Instruction provides leadership in new developments by driving consistency, integrating educational technology, and ensuring best practices in the design and development of curriculum and the professional development of teachers. This role advances PLTW's strategic commitments by ensuring that curriculum and training is designed and delivered in alignment with the organization's strategic initiatives and priorities.


  • Execute on organizational priorities and help shape the vision for the program to meet the needs of students, teachers, and schools, defining the impact of offerings for internal and external partners;
  • Recruit, hire, coach and professionally develop a Team responsible for the design and development of PLTW's engineering curriculum and associated professional development for teachers;
  • Identify, recommend, and onboard solutions to advance the work of the team and implement best practices to improve work quality, prioritization setting, and team collaboration and communication;
  • Research and integrate new workforce and educational technologies in curriculum and training to best prepare students for in demand careers;
  • Gather and use data to drive consistency and make decisions related to the design of curriculum offerings and collaborate with other Instructional team members to maintain high-quality instruction across programs;
  • Identify and partner with subject matter and educational experts and consider national education standards and industry practices to inform the design of the unit or course;
  • Provide and continually refine expertise in educational theory to develop high-quality curriculum and instructional resources according to standard theory of development established by PLTW;
  • Collaborate with Customer Insights and Research teams to identify and target student outcomes in alignment with PLTW strategic goals;
  • Collaborate cross functionally with varied teams based on project needs;
  • Collaborate with Assessment and Production team members to design, improve, and implement instructional resources;
  • Partner with editorial and instructional teams to implement a comprehensive and consistent academic program.


  • A bachelor's degree in education, science, engineering, computer science, or related field;
  • Experience writing national STEM curriculum and/or professional development desired
  • Knowledge of emerging educational technology and engineering workforce technology

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience leading the work of others in education-related projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proven ability to lead the design and development of instructor led or web-based units/courses
  • Experience with grades 6–12 STEM and Engineering education including national education standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management skills
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Ability to prioritize and be detail-oriented
  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively
  • Creative and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability
