Director of Information Technology and Security

About the Role:

The Director of Information Technology & Security drives strategy at DreamBox for all corporate technology. This starts with core tools and systems used across the company but extends into departmental tools and more targeted solutions. The Director analyzes the needs of various departments to decide the feasibility of implementing systems within budgetary constraints. This includes reviewing, defining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly network and server infrastructure, data and voice communications, and line-of-business applications. The strategy should inform a detailed roadmap around tool and platform choices that optimize efficiency, delivering business value and reducing friction without undue cost.

The Director will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring a strategic, comprehensive enterprise cybersecurity and IT risk management program. This starts with a robust understanding of assets, risks and threats. It leads to a clear vision of how the organization will operate, configure, and operate to protect the business. Keeping this process healthy requires continually communicating with other leaders in the company to ensure alignment on principles, plans and decisions around risk management. The Director must be capable of being the primary force that keeps this communication active and productive.

The Director will be an active force for better communication. That task often involves translation: expressing risk management priorities as project prioritization within the Security Team; collecting input from technical teams and sharing with the Executive Team; explaining a new ransomware threat in a way that gives all employees clarity on what they need to know and what they should do. The Director needs to understand how the pieces fit together at all levels, and be able to explain it to all audiences. This is the person responsible for understanding how a macro event (like shifting to remote work) leads to and requires specific tactical and operational changes. They also need to be able to turn around and explain to a non-technical audience just how these detail-level items add up to expense, schedule impacts, or risk.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Remaining knowledgeable of current technology trends and challenges, and determining when and how the company might benefit from emerging technologies.
  • Being an in-house expert on which current security and privacy topics should have our full attention, and which new attack vectors require us to make changes and improvements.
  • Proactively communicating to the executive leadership team: threats, decisions on relative priority, evolution of tools and platforms – the leadership team should be confident that they know what’s coming, and why. You are responsible for giving them that confidence.
  • Working with your team to identify and evaluate potential technology vendors, negotiating contracts, and evaluating short-term and long-term budget impact. You will have direct ownership over and responsibility for the IT and Security Budget.
  • Providing disaster recovery & business continuity planning. This is a department that can’t afford to be caught unprepared. There needs to be an explicit playbook for any scenario, and your team needs to be ready to apply that playbook without panic or delay.
  • Managing, developing, mentoring, and growing a team of IT and Security professionals. Your entire department must be engaged and effective in order for your group to have success. It won’t be enough for you to be individually competent and productive – you need to support, mentor, and inspire your managers and staff. The best employees have high expectations for their work environment and their leaders. You need to meet those expectations.

About You:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Security related certifications or experience preferred
  • 10 years IT experience with 5+ years leading, managing and fostering the continual growth of a technical team
  • Experience in high-growth technology businesses
  • Direct experience balancing the requirements of ISO 27001 (or other security standard) with budget and schedule commitments
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Well organized and self-directed in managing own work and identifying needs of the company
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
