Director of Human Resources

Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources contributes to Illuminate’s success by applying best-in-class HR principles around business planning, organizational design, culture development, training, and performance management. This role will support the organization by developing, implementing, and managing competitive HR programs and initiatives across the organization. This role reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and will be located in our Irvine office. 

Key Responsibilities

People Strategy + Business Partner

  • Serve as strategic HR partner to business leaders to influence initiatives that attract, develop, and retain employees to support our short and long-term business goals.
  • Provide insight and analysis on people-related measures to guide the HR team’s focus areas.
  • With keen focus on organizational design, partner with key stakeholders to ensure employee and business needs are exceeded in a rapidly scaling organization.
  • Drive, and participate in, execution of HR team initiatives.
  • Partner with CHRO in developing team of HR Business Partners.
  • Model and reinforce our cultural values.

Performance + Talent Management

  • Recommend, develop, and implement performance, development, talent review, and succession planning processes.
  • Provide counsel and guidance on people management and development issues.
  • Function as an executive coach to key clients and leaders.
  • Recommend, develop, and implement Learning & Development programs tailored to the teams you support.

Employee Relations

  • Work to evaluate and address employee concerns to create a culture of transparency and equity.
  • Ensure HR policies are relevant, communicated, followed, and in line with state/local requirements.
  • Establish tools to enable effective working relationships with and between managers and employees.
  • Handle investigations when necessary.
  • Remain up-to-date on local employment legislation and compliance.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Drive projects that work to ensure equitable pay for performance is in place, including relevant pay structures and reward mechanisms for the unique needs of the teams supported.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related field.
  • 10+ years experience in a progressively growing HR leadership role with proven success in building relations and influencing leaders on the full spectrum of HR offerings.
  • Proven, trusted business partner to senior executives who you have supported in past roles.
  • Experience with performance management, organizational design, recruitment, immigration, employee relations/coaching, compensation, benefits, and employee communications.
  • Ability to creatively develop and adapt HR offerings that deliver on the unique needs of the organization while avoiding unnecessary process or bureaucracy.
  • Domestic (multi-state) and international experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and communicate at all levels of the organization—someone who is a team player.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Google Drive suite.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • A detail-oriented problem solver with intuitive decision-making skills.
