Position Purpose: 

The Director of High Schools is responsible for designing, piloting, as well as successfully launching and leading SPARK Schools High School model. This involves both the design of the High School academic and operating model but also driving outstanding academic achievement through School leadership. Promoting positive School culture and leading a team of excellent staff to prepare SPARK scholars for university and beyond is critical to the success of this position. 

The Director of High Schools is responsible for student achievement by designing and implementing instructional systems, both in terms of classroom curriculum and online learning. The position will be responsible for driving decision-making, ensuring that our curriculum is engaging and rigorous, that our assessment accurately measures student progress toward each individual's achievement goals. 

The Director of High Schools is responsible for managing all High School principals across the SPARK Schools network, specifically managing instructional leadership and developing High quality student excellence focused principles. 


Lead and manage High School principals across the SPARK Schools network 

- Manage Principal(s) and Assistant Principal(s) and facilitate their leadership development in the context of SPARK Schools’ network-wide leadership development programme. 

- Train, orient, coach and support the academic leadership team and other staff by monitoring and improving the observation and coaching cycle 

- Participate in and drive own professional development. 

Lead student achievement in SPARK High Schools 

- Responsible for overall student achievement and academic performance of the SPARK High Schools, including development and delivery of curriculum and assessment. 

- Responsible for driving student growth and achievement throughout the SPARK High School network. 

- Lead network academic interventions and changes to the academic model where appropriate 

Implement, monitor and refine the High School model at SPARK Schools (including the delivery of the curriculum, assessments, culture items and professional development guidelines). 

- Synthesize research around the effectiveness of the High School model, internal best practices, and challenges to design and pilot a learning model that aligns with SPARK's instructional practices, beliefs and values, and delivers strong student achievement results. 

- Consider and evaluate financial implications of the High School model for feasibility and short and long-term cost-effectiveness. 

- Lead the implementation of a blended learning model that supports the integration of technology using research-based strategies. 

Demonstrate a relentless commitment to student achievement. 

- Coordinate the overall planning, design, and development of course content and assessments for specific subject areas 

- Research, design, or supplement the academic curriculum for all subjects and grades based on successful models and approaches and document in a scope and sequence including assessments.

- Evaluate, approve, and coordinate the purchase of curricular materials, such as textbooks and manipulatives. 

- Seek opportunities to integrate student data with classroom assessment data to create a richer understanding of student progress. 

- Integrate curricular support with strategies for student social-emotional development. 


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: 

- Bachelor's degree required. 

- Experience managing and launching a network of high schools. 

- At least three years of experience formally coaching school leaders and teachers. 

- Experience in facilitating professional development and adult training. 

- Experience in curriculum development and assessment. 

- Awareness of innovative practices in R-12 education, particularly around the role of technology in education reform. 

- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal abilities to manage cross-teams. 

- Exhibit flexibility and drive results in a fast-paced environment. 

- Knowledge of and ability to lead a design process.
