Director of Growth and Impact

The ASSISTments Foundation - Remote - Full time

The ASSISTments Foundation (TAF) seeks an experienced marketing and communications professional to join us as Director of Growth and Impact. This is a unique opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, mission-oriented organization dedicated to scaling ASSISTments, a research-based math practice and assessment tool used by 20,000 teachers and 500,000 students. You will be a member of our leadership team, directly enabling our growth in terms of users, sales and fundraising. Through strategic and effective storytelling and developing and leading a holistic marketing and communications strategy, you will play a central role in defining our story, impact, and value proposition, growing our visibility and brand awareness, as well as positioning us a thought leader in math education. The right person will have deep knowledge and experience in edtech, K-12 education, and/or math, be strategic, data-driven and research savvy, and be a creative force in the strategic development of messaging, collateral, and media.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of marketing and communication strategies that enable ASSISTments growth and impact, including:
    • Attracting new teacher users to our free core tool
    • Growing usage and engagement of existing users
    • Enabling sales to schools and districts for our services
    • Attracting new philanthropic investments
    • Positioning ASSISTments as a thought leader
    • Establishing a strong brand presence
  • Leverage diverse marketing channels (email, social, web, SEO, content, advertising, press, etc.) to achieve the above goals.
  • Successfully execute the above strategies through directly managing the Marketing and Communications Manager, working closely with TAF’s Executive Director and leadership team, influencing cross-functional teams including product, programs and data, and as needed, engaging external consultants and organizations
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of content that amplifies ASSISTments’ impact in creative and compelling ways, working with our data analyst (and possibly external researchers) to ask and answer questions related to our efficacy. Write and design publications, and other collateral, to communicate our impact — building storylines, sharpening messages and turning quantitative analysis into crisp, digestible writing and images. Ultimately you will set the “north star” for what data we should be pulling for what purpose, developing an “impact portfolio” in support of business goals
    • This includes highlighting research that comes out of the ASSISTments Project @ Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
  • Lead branding and messaging for the organization, developing and maintaining guidelines aligned to key defined audiences. Ensure messaging reflects a deep understanding of our users, our unique value proposition amongst competitors, and the evolving landscape. Engage in additional user and market research as needed to fine tune branding and messaging.
  • Lead the production of all content, including print, digital and multimedia collateral to enable sales and fundraising teams to successfully do their work. This includes fact sheets, one-pagers, case studies, infographics, web pages, media kits, slide decks, and videos.
  • Raise the visibility of ASSISTments as a thought leader on research and innovation, and equitable math teaching. This includes engaging media outlets, directly contributing written pieces, and working with key staff (for example our co-founders) to better highlight and feature points of view and interesting work. Manage all media relations and pitching, acting as a point of contact for all executive interviews and media placements.
  • Measure and report on effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies, including defining and tracking metrics related to new user acquisition and engagement, and success of specific campaigns in raising visibility/awareness.
  • Develop and maintain productive, strategic relationships with internal leaders and key partners, including media contacts, other math education organizations, researchers, and funders.

Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, with at least 3 years managing integrated campaigns across PR, digital marketing, advertising, editorial, and thought leadership.
  • Excellent storyteller and writer with a proven track record of publication and translating complex subject matter into clear, engaging content.
  • Interest and experience shaping data and research agendas, and translating complex data into consumable and shareable data-stories.
  • Expertise in pitching media; well-developed and maintained media relationships within education press is a plus.
  • Experience working closely with senior executives and external communications partners; adept at incorporating and balancing ideas and feedback from multiple contributors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects to strong outcomes; ability to define and meet deliverables in a startup environment.
  • High standards for design and writing, as well as a strong attention to detail.
  • Entrepreneurial, collaborative, hands-on style, with an eye toward action and impact.
  • Experience in edtech a must, with experience in K-12 education, research and/or math a plus
  • Interest in social change, education, data and research, mission and advocacy, as well as in ASSISTments specific dual mission of giving every student the opportunity they deserve to be good at math, and accelerating learning science research and understanding of what works best in math education
  • Technical expertise manage digital marketing channels and in-house or outsourced production of assets (Hubspot, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Canva, Tableau, Ahrefs, Webflow, etc)
