We also work with policymakers, industry leaders, legislators, and to improve the media and education landscape for kids, families, and schools.

The Director of Education Marketing & Engagement is an innovative and digitally savvy professional who will be responsible for growing and engaging educator communities across different audience segments of Common Sense Education. You'll use research, experience, and empathy to envision and launch content, products, programs, and initiatives to improve outcomes for students and schools, and drive impact for the organization.

TYPE: Full-time (40 hours/week), exempt, permanent


  • Lead top-to-bottom marketing funnel strategies responsible for increasing awareness, adoption, and deep implementation of Common Sense Education products, content, and programs.
  • Develop and execute high-performing marketing plans that circulate Common Sense's organizational value and thought leadership among K–12 educators.
  • Oversee onboarding and newsletter engagement strategy, including increasing subscribers, defining user welcome journeys, and segmenting messaging.
  • Listen and learn from the various segments of our target audiences by testing the performance of content, messaging, design, and distribution channels. Translate complex issues into clarifying campaigns that drive awareness → adoption → behavior change.
  • Leverage existing community platforms to increase user engagement with the Common Sense Education brand, and identify new opportunities for community engagement to help reach high-priority impact goals.
  • Drive the development of marketing materials to be used through email, social media, events, paid media, blog posts, etc. Materials include but are not limited to videos, program and product brochures, images, infographics, and white papers.
  • Work across research, content, product, creative, communications, and marketing teams to achieve maximum impact for campaigns and hit target KPIs.
  • Use data to drive decisions, optimize our marketing approach, and assist with grants, funding, or business development proposals.
  • Collaborate with external partners on marketing deliverables, and leverage partner networks for co-marketing opportunities.
  • Oversee strategy for Recognition and Ambassador programs, including defining success and growth.
  • Provide accurate reporting on all marketing and engagement activities to senior management and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Manage a lean, high-performing, and highly accountable team, focused on marketing and community building programs, that ensures projects are delivered on time and on strategy.
  • Organize and deliver large-scale conference marketing, including booth plans, user acquisition, and audience engagement.


  • 5+ years of previous management experience, including direct line management and navigating a matrixed organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural skills, with proven ability to successfully approach, build trust, and negotiate across multiple cultures, markets, and community/business leaders.
  • Highly effective communicator and strategic thinker with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex ideas, unique concepts, and proposals to engage team, peers, and management.
  • Familiarity with/experience in the K–12 education space, with a deep understanding of and empathy for an audience of teachers. Classroom teaching experience is a plus (though not required).
  • Experience working on the Salesforce platform or other CRM software packages.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of analytics and project management software systems.
  • Experience and credibility as a leader in a multifaceted environment where the ability to influence, work cross-functionally, and build relationships is essential.
