Job Description

1. Directs Editorial on the development of curriculum-based digital learning content that will drive school and classroom use of the entire educational product line of Britannica.

2. Works very closely with the Product Development and Sales teams (curriculum specialists, salespeople, product managers, producers, designers, UX specialists, etc.) to develop the editorial strategies and plans required to ensure that each product meets its customers’ requirements.

3. Functions as the lead curriculum and learning specialist within the Learning Content Development group, which also includes the Compton’s and Britannica Student Encyclopedia editors. Duties include:

  • -Ensuring instructional integrity and grade-level appropriateness of all K–12 content and product development efforts, including articles, media, learning activities, features, tools, and assessments.
  • -Providing any needed templates or models for instructional content and new and revised articles.
  • -Developing creative new educational content experiences
  • -Providing guidelines for the revision or creation of content to ensure appropriate correlation to curriculum standards.
  • -Working as a writer and/or editor of learning content.
  • -Providing support for creation of correlations, pacing guides, and lesson plans.
  • -Performing gap analyses across all subject areas to ensure that learning content meets student, educator, and market needs, including international markets.
  • -Working with Editorial media departments to ensure that existing and new media assets achieve pedagogical goals.

4. Serves as primary Editorial representative on cross-functional teams tasked with creating and managing content and feature development of supplemental digital curriculum products that serve the needs of students, educators, and school administrators.

Desired Skills & Experience


  • Master of Education degree or higher in curriculum and instruction.
  • 3-5+ years teaching elementary or middle school.
  • 5+ years of experience developing digital K-12 instructional products.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.


  • Solid experience in all content-related aspects of supplemental digital curriculum product development.
  • Proven experience in creating a new digital or online content experience.
  • Solid experience writing and editing elementary or middle school curriculum-based content.
  • Successful management experience.
  • Successful track-record working with cross-functional teams in an iterative Agile project management environment.
  • Proven ability to be flexible in editorial, product, and cross-functional settings.
  • Any start-up experience a plus.


  • Mastery of Common Core Standards, NGSS, C3 Framework, and state-level standards, as well as multiple types of assessments.
  • Familiarity with current approaches to learning and learning product development, including objective-based learning, Core knowledge, differentiated learning, and content-based learning, etc.
  • Familiarity and ease with digital technology and digital instructional products.
  • Experience with supplemental curriculum products.
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities and top-notch management and communication skills.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and be able to work well with others.

Other Requirements:

Ability to coordinate several projects at the same time and work under pressure.
