Director of Development, Edsurge

ISTE - Remote - Full time

The Director of Development, EdSurge, is responsible for driving revenue efforts to support the EdSurge content teams: Journalism, Research, and Studio. The majority of the work will be growing and sustaining grant funding for general operational purposes as well as for large scale projects. Just as important will be managing the team that brings in substantial revenue in the form of advertising, custom content, and a jobs board. This position reports into the Senior Director of EdSurge and plays a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing success of EdSurge.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Fully own the process for delivering large and varied grant funding for EdSurge content teams, from prospecting to relationship building to closing and reporting on grant-funding projects
  • Manage an effective earned-revenue generating team, consisting of strategic partnerships management, customer success, and content co-creation colleagues
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build proposals based on content strategy and team bandwidth, especially Journalism and Research, when structuring planned work for philanthropic funding
  • Maintain relationships with major supporters and build new relationships for long-term support
  • Represent EdSurge internally and externally with cross-functional partnerships colleagues, peer organizations, and industry stakeholders

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors, Masters Preferred, ideally in Education, Business, Nonprofit Management, or other related discipline
  • 5-10 years of work experience across education leadership, business partnerships, development, and project management. Must have philanthropic fundraising experience which includes grant writing. Bonus points for having worked on funding education journalism or research.

Technical Skills:

  • Grant/proposal writing
  • Business development, especially philanthropic funding
  • Proficient with Google Suite, budgeting software, remote work team software
  • Familiarity with HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Analytics

Required Competencies

  • Extraordinary organizational skills: managing and tracking multiple overlapping projects and relationships with varied deliverables
  • Navigate the potentially competing interests and find areas of alignment across teams with different functions and priorities
  • Manage effective teams with multiple layers, levels, and divergent competencies
  • Operating within lean environments with limited resources and the need to create new processes

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
