Leanlab Education is seeking a full-time Director of Business Development to support our Codesign Product Research program. Knowledge of the edtech landscape, pipeline development and management, and sales leadership experience are essential to success in this position.
MISSION
Recruit forward-thinking edtech companies to participate in Leanlab’s Codesign Product Research program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This individual contributor is responsible for Leanlab’s entire pipeline of education technology companies. The Director of Business Development use their thorough understanding of the edtech landscape to source and cultivate leads for Leanlab’s Codesign portfolio of research offerings. This role will also develop and maintain critical relationships with edtech partner organizations across the United States and abroad.
VENTURE RECRUITMENT AND SALES
- Build a comprehensive market strategy to achieve and exceed sales objectives
- Cultivate a world-class pipeline of K12 education entrepreneurs
- Manage all daily responsibilities related to sales, including but not limited to:
- Responding to prospect emails
- Taking meetings with prospects
- Scheduling and conducting product demos
- Update CRM
- Proactively update the Leanlab team on progress towards sales goals and high-level insights
- Build and maintain a customer profile aligned to Leanlab values, program offerings, and school needs
- Perpetually iterate and refine Leanlab’s sales process, from prospecting to customer retention
- Prospect and identify new emerging education technology companies aligned to the ideal target profile
- Travel to relevant conferences and events to recruit and convene K-12 education entrepreneurs
- Use deep knowledge of the edtech landscape to apprise Leanlab of important industry trends, threats, and opportunities
- Design and host events, both virtual and in person, to engage and attract world-class K-12 education entrepreneurs
- Collaborate with the Leanlab team to create collateral and identify marketing opportunities to promote Leanlab education products and services to K-12 entrepreneurs
- Establish partnerships with national education innovation organizations, other entrepreneur support programs, and education technology/social impact and relevant venture capital firms to successfully yield increased deal flow of entrepreneurs and interested investors
- Build awareness of codesign research offerings through presentations, thought leadership, and marketing opportunities
- Maintain an understanding of technology business development, venture capital networks, and the support organizations that help edtech companies achieve growth and scale.
- Consistently research and be abreast of market research trends in K12 public education and high potential education startup companies that are gaining momentum
EARLY STAGE VENTURE SUPPORT AND ECOSYSTEM BUILDING
- Build relationships with relevant K12 Edtech Venture Capital firms and accelerators as prospective funders for early stage Edtech companies that qualify for Leanlab services
- Design programming and venture showcases that showcase Codesign research clients/prospective clients to impact oriented investors
- Design programming to support business development and support for early stage founders, particularly those from underrepresented communities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of experience in edtech sales or a highly aligned field
- A combination of hands-on experience working directly with prospects and strategy development/sales leadership
- Advanced knowledge of outbound marketing strategies
- Experience in a startup or similar fast-paced, high-growth environment preferred
- Proficient with Google suites
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate complex data with attention to detail and accuracy
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; an adept copywriter that can modify communications to match diverse audiences (funders, researchers, entrepreneurs, general public, etc)

BENEFITS & SALARY
This is an exempt position with full benefits, retirement plan with company match, and unlimited PTO. Anticipated salary range for this role is $110,000.00-125,000.00 annually, exclusive of performance-based bonuses. This range is negotiable and commensurate with experience, but must remain aligned with our internal compensation philosophy.
