SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Director of Marketing Communications will lead and direct an internal creative agency/studio responsible for the creative development, operations, production and tracking of breakthrough communications. This role will manage design and editorial teams that drive creative consistency, compelling storytelling and a mission-based brand narrative across 360 degree communications across digital, print, web, email, collateral and Museum building assets (digital screens, banners, signage). This position plays a critical leadership role that interfaces with every Museum division with a particular focus on Marketing, Advancement and Membership departments. This role bridges operations and creative processes within a dynamic Museum that serves nearly 1.5 million people in Boston each year and over 2 million more around the world. The Director of Marketing Communications works closely with, and reports directly to, the SVP, Marketing Strategy and Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage 7+ full-time and temporary full-time employees as well as seasonal interns
  • Oversee 12+ freelance writers, editors, designers, and design studios
  • Manage $1 million department budget
  • Work with clients and partners from 10+ Museum department and divisions. 35%+ of total projects devoted to Advancement support
  • Strategic, creative and production oversight for more than 800 editorial/design projects per year, inclusive of 1-2 exhibit campaigns (40 executions/resizes), Newsletter (6 times/year), brochures, collateral, Maps, 50+ web pages, 200+ social media posts, 50+ emails, posters, rack cards, exhibit guides, stationary/envelopes, promotional and informational signage.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday.

REPORTS TO:

Senior Vice President, Marketing Strategy & Communications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree.
  • 10 or more years in the marketing communications field.
  • Experience servicing multiple clients in creative and production capacity
  • Demonstrated leadership and understanding of project management and workflow systems/software solutions
  • Interpersonal skills, including managing creative personnel
  • Demonstrated budget management skills of $1M+
  • Demonstrated leadership managing visual and written communications development across digital and print
  • Demonstrated Adobe Creative Suite experience

STARTING SALARY:

Exempt (Salaried). Commensurate with experience.
