The College Board, the national educational organization known for the SAT suite of assessments and the Advanced Placement program, is conducting a search for a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis who will join our Finance team at our New York City headquarters in an individual contributor role that brings together outstanding skills in analyzing data, telling stories, and collaborating with colleagues. While the Director's focus will be the budgeting and forecasting process, he or she will also conduct analyses in a range of contexts, from businesses cases for proposed product investments to margin analyses for particular programs.

Position Summary

The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) investigates, captures, and presents the College Board's financial performance. He or she also works closely with colleagues across the College Board to direct a lightweight, efficient budgeting process.

The Director will develop, and then translate for executives, analyses of revenue and expense drivers, performance indicators, and recent historical trends. This work plays an essential role in clarifying tradeoffs and enabling the VP, Strategic Finance and SVP, Finance & Global Strategy to make sound strategic decisions to support the College Board's work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage communication of key insights and actionable intelligence to drive sound business and strategy decisions.
  • Guide programs and service units across the College Board through budgeting and financial reporting processes, managing staff towards tight deadlines
  • Lead one or more key analytic work streams, which may include new product business case development, total cost of ownership analyses, and/or budgeting and targeted cost reduction exercises.
  • Lead development of financial projections, and performance reports in collaboration with program and Finance colleagues.
  • Manage schedule and materials for ongoing inter-departmental meetings including regular variance meetings and performance reviews with programs.
  • Work with Finance colleagues to develop relevant materials, including quarterly budget updates to the organization and an annual Year-In-Review document, ensuring that all narratives are accessible for varied audiences.
  • Design and deliver custom financial reports for senior leadership.
  • Deeply grasp the economics of the College Board, including revenue and expense drivers, key performance indicators, and recent historical trends and ensure that programs and service units have information to apply these insights to their work.



  • Bachelor's degree is required; MBA or relevant consulting experience is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience in business, finance, or management/strategy consulting is required.


  • Excellence in financial analysis
  • Mastery of Excel (including pivot tables, macros, and advanced functions) and PowerPoint
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to move deftly between big picture and details
  • Comfort with concurrently managing multiple ongoing projects in different phases
  • Attentiveness to detail and deadlines
