Director, Event Sponsorships

ISTE - Multiple Locations or Remote - Full time

The Director of Event Sponsorships is responsible for the sales and fulfillment of all event sponsorships including mission year-round, annual conference, and focused event sponsorships. This role collaborates across the organization, with external contractors, and corporate partners and potential partners to define sponsor packages that create mutual value and showcase joint work.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads sponsor acquisition and package development for all sponsor opportunities.
  • Ensures sponsorship benefits are fulfilled, working with key staff in departments that are responsible for fulfillment of benefits.
  • Assists ISTE Leadership to identify, pursue, and secure revenue-generating sponsorships in collaboration with ISTE events team and ISTE senior leadership.
  • Executes on ISTE sponsorship and corporate membership plan including assisting with revenue goals and program budget.
  • Collaborates with ISTE/EdSurge marketing team to develop and deliver marketing and communications support for corporate newsletters, online collateral for mission, conference, and focused event sponsorships.
  • Manages the customer sales tracking database and acts as a Salesforce resource for the events team.
  • Attends ed tech industry conferences and summits to represent ISTE and connect with current and potential corporate customers and sponsors.
  • Collaborates with events team staff to plan and execute on-site delivery of event sponsorship benefits for and during the annual conference and focused-events, including the Ed Tech Start-up Pavilion at the annual conference.
  • Participates in various current and future conference site visits and/or planning meetings as needed, as well as on-site participation.
  • Coordinates the sponsor debrief process post-event, make recommendations about improvements and enhancements to sponsor packages and benefits and implements agreed upon updates.
  • Manages all sponsorships within SalesForce and shares updates on sponsorships in various weekly meetings.

Location Details:

For this position, we are considering candidates who may report to our offices in Portland, OR, or Arlington, VA, as well as candidates from outside those immediate geographic areas. Full-time remote or hybrid remote/in-office arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.

Experience and Education

Minimum Qualification Guidelines

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, sales, management, business, marketing, or related field
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible program management experience and working or volunteering in a nonprofit setting
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, management in marketing, sales, or sponsorship experience may also be acceptable.

Also desirable

  • Experience working for a nonprofit organization, nonprofit membership association, or within the field of Education.

  • Strong customer service ability
  • Proficiency in data systems and collaboration tools

Physical and Environmental Elements

  • The job is typically performed under very comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of job.
  • Concentrated mental and visual attention is required to perform essential functions in a partitioned office environment. Attention to detail is required to meet accuracy and quality standards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries reports and records that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.
  • Some business travel may be required, which includes both air and land transportation. It may be necessary to handle personal luggage and operate a motor vehicle. The position must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds when preparing for a conference, meeting, or exhibition. Specifically, attendance at ISTE conference(s) may be required. Conference responsibilities require the ability to travel and work long days, moving throughout large convention centers.
