Director Education Research and Development

Benetech is a nonprofit that leads the software for social good space, creating significant and scalable software that empowers individuals with disabilities, people in poverty, and those seeking human rights and justice in our world.

The role of Director, Education R&D is pivotal for creating new products, forging new partnerships, marketing and creating opportunities, and helping platform adoption and development during the early prototype stages and beyond.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Take a strategic leadership role in articulating, implementing and measuring the vision and mission of our education R&D work, including representing Benetech to outside constituencies, networking with partners and community leaders, participating in sector events, and public speaking.
  • Create and manage strategic partnerships that lead to new innovations, enhanced impact and/or funding opportunities.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of product and program personnel focused on new products, partner relationships and community initiatives, including the DIAGRAM Center
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight on product sustainability, product road maps, product portfolio development and market analysis.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 6-8 years of leadership experience in building and managing effective programs in a start-up phase or environment, and a strong track record in program and/or enterprise management.
  • Direct experience in business development, business planning, and product or service definition, in areas such as software, mobile apps, or digital content. Education technology strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Benetech’s mission to impact the lives of millions of underserved people throughout the world, and ability to serve as a passionate, effective advocate within the community.
  • Strong personal understanding of accessibility and inclusion principles, policies, and technical implementation, especially in education context.
  • Ability to travel 20-30%.
  • Successful track record of managing a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience working with government agencies, international NGO’s, multi-lateral partnerships, and cross-sector collaborations strongly preferred.
