Director, Academic Data Management and Analytics

The Academic Data Management and Analytics Director leads the Chief Academic Officer’s Data Management and Analytics team focused on developing, implementing and supporting data analysis across the organization to improve student performance, student experience, and operational efficiency. This role leads a team of data analysts in establishing metrics, gathering, organizing and analyzing data, and conducting regular and ad hoc reporting. The role must engage with the academic, political and organizational requirements around each issue and tailor solutions appropriate for each context. The role will maintain close contact with cross functional partners throughout the organization to understand key data challenges, communicate data analysis findings, partner on data informed solutions and monitor implementation on an ongoing basis.

  • Leads the CAO’s Office of Teaching and Learning team of data analysts and report developers with a focus on academic data as an essential product that is aligned with strategic goals;
  • Supports cross-functional partners by managing and analyzing large amounts of data and providing actionable insights;
  • Serves as subject matter expert on all academic data and owns key performance metrics for all areas of teaching and learning;
  • Analyzes data with standard methods, interprets the results, and provides a summary of analyses with actionable insights; ensures and improves data integrity, accuracy and quality; shares knowledge of analysis techniques and data coding with others;
  • Implements an Agile methodology that allows the team to be responsive to ad hoc data requests resulting in timely turnarounds and delivery to customer;
  • Collects data routinely and independently as requested to monitor and report on implementation of specific initiatives across the organization; Identifies new data sources to enhance analytics;
  • Serves as a data owner and catalyst within the enterprise Data Strategy implementation, adoption, and decision making;
  • Promotes and supports a culture dedicated to strategic data driven decision making; Provides thought leadership throughout the organization for how to best use data and analysis insights.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 5-10 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) regular employees and/or contractors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study AND
  • Five (5) years of experience managing academic data analysis, reporting and use AND
  • Two (2) years of management experience in K-12 data analytics, research, IT, operations OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: None required.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent project management, verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SQL. Power BI, Python, etc.
  • Data analysis and structured problem solving
  • Ability to travel (15%)
  • Ability to clear required background check

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field of study
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team of data analysts
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with other professional staff
  • Experience with producing and presenting materials for public review
  • Awareness of current trends and directions in online schools and K-12 academic, engagement and persistence/retention data specifically
