Digital Media Producer, Office of News and Communications

Job Summary:

Duke University is looking for a digital media producer who will be responsible for planning, producing and editing custom content (including videos, GIFs, GIF stickers, and other graphic content) for social and online media channels maintained by University Communications and Duke in DC. This role serves as both a content creator and editor, and as a project manager/producer for videos and other content developed specifically for social and digital channels.

Required Skills:

A demonstrated ability to craft compelling stories for presentation through a variety of formats. Creative vision, strong storytelling skills, and excellent production and editing abilities. The ability to work productively in a fast-paced, diverse and dynamic environment. A demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for higher education is preferred.

A portfolio that demonstrates motion graphics design and video production experience is required (when applying, please attach or include a link to your portfolio or samples of work).

Software expertise:

●Adobe After Effects or Motion

●Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro X

●Adobe Photoshop

Video editing skills:

●Motion graphics design/animation

●Greenscreen keying

●Sound correction

●Color correction

●Formats & encoding for web & other platforms

●Graphics

●Video/audio syncing in post-production

Video shooting skills:

●Lighting

●DSLR shooting

Responsibilities:

Content Planning, Production and Editing (50%)

●Works with colleagues to identify and select stories for development and appropriate formats for presenting stories and research developments.

●Collaborates with the university’s digital team to ensure consistency across graphics for Duke channels, share best practices and new approaches, select appropriate formats for Duke content, and ensure materials are consistent with Duke brand standards.

●Develops storyboards, scripts, and interview questions.

●Conducts interviews and other background research to inform the content creation process.

●Sets up equipment, sound and lighting for filming and photography.

●Captures video, sound, and still photography in a variety of settings.

●Creates motion graphics, still graphics and other assets for digital and social media channels.

●Edits video, photo, audio and graphic assets into polished final products.

●Ensures that content is appropriately captioned and meets Duke’s requirements for accessibility.

Content Distribution and Promotion (20%)

●Posts videos to YouTube

●Assists Director of Content Strategy with oversight and management of the Duke University YouTube channel

●Coordinates with Social and Digital Media Strategist to distribute content via the university’s social media channels

●Collaborates with colleagues throughout Duke to share content for possible distribution via other channels

Project Management (30%)

●Selects and secures appropriate locations for filming and other production needs

●Schedules filming and other content gathering

Education/Training:

Bachelor’s degree in film production, graphic design, communications or a related field.
