ABOUT THE KAUFFMAN SCHOOL

The Ewing Marion Kauffman School is a three-school campus (two middle schools and a high school) of mission-driven college preparatory schools in Kansas City, MO focused on student achievement and strong character. The school’s mission is summarized in three words: create college graduates.

The Kauffman School was named 2015 Missouri Charter School of the Year. The schools serve a student population of which 87% qualify for free and reduced lunch and 90% identify as person of color. Students are accepted by a lottery that prioritizes the six highest-need zip codes within the district. Students entering Kauffman School in fifth grade typically scored in the bottom third of the state on their fourth grade exams. After four years at Kauffman School, 8th grade classes score at the very top in state exams; in 2015-2016 Kauffman School 8th graders ranked #1 in math, #3 in science, and #12 in ELA in the state of Missouri. Our founding freshman class was the #1 ranked district in Biology and the #2 ranked district in Algebra on Missouri’s end of course exams. Year after year, Kauffman School students outperform their peers across the state at every single grade and subject level.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Kauffman School seeks a dedicated and inspirational Data and Technology Manager (DTM). The Data and Technology Department at the Kauffman School is dedicated to the idea that our school should be a test lab in education, able to implement and report out on what creates and scales transformative outcomes for students. To achieve this, the department collects and analyzes data, offers strategic guidance to instructional leadership, and works to invest staff and students in ambitious goals.

The DTM is a committed, detail-oriented individual who shares the Kauffman School belief that all students can meet high academic expectations in the right school environment. The DTM owns the entire workflow of several key student and staff indicators, including design, collection, analysis, strategic recommendations, and motivating staff and students to achieve. The DTM reports to the Director of Technology and Data and is a full-time, exempt position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Management and Reporting

  • Collaborate with school leadership to implement the school’s system for collection of performance data through student assessment and surveys, staff surveys, and culture audits
  • Produce various student reports accurately and on time (weekly behavior reports, progress reports, and report cards)
  • Design, maintain, and analyze data tools to regularly update school leaders on key progress monitoring measures
  • Coordinate and prepare timely and accurate submission(s) of school’s state and federal reporting requirements along with other administrators
  • Own and manage the student information system to meet needs of end users and produce crucial student reports (Powerschool and Kickboard)
  • Prepare periodic reports analyzing student achievement and progress toward charter goals for the Board of Directors using multiple data sources and measures
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and useful information for instructional staff (i.e. behavior, attendance, homework completion, etc.)
  • Manage process and software for student grades, credits, and transcripts
  • Responsible for maintaining student attendance and performance assessments records
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Technology and Data

Assessment

  • Owns the EMKS assessment portfolio (STEP, ANET, MAP, ACT, EOC, AP)
  • Executes and manages project plans to use in coordinating logistics of assessment administration and proactively communicating roles and responsibilities of Information Technology staff and other school administrators
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely process of data entry, analysis, and reporting for all school assessments
  • Serve as first point of contact with all instructional assessment and support affiliates (ANET, STEP, DESE, College Board)
  • Responsible for receiving, storing, and producing test materials
  • Collaborate with teaching staff on the creation and storage of school designed interim assessments
  • Provide training to staff on administrative procedures and protocols related to assessment administration
  • Responsible for class-set up, scheduling, distribution/collection of test materials and related supplies on test days
  • Prepare summative reports for instructional staff that clearly report progress toward quarterly and annual goals, and motivate staff to new targets

Progress Monitoring and Organizational Effectiveness

  • Together with the DTD, produce strategic recommendations for organizational goals, priorities, and action
  • Design, administer, and report on surveys that measure staff satisfaction and perspectives in order to best develop and retain strong talent
  • Design, administer, and report on surveys that measure school climate through student and parent perspectives in order to best refine instructional and behavioral methods
  • Design tools like rubrics, checklists, and dashboards that measure and report on quarterly goal progress
  • Lead weekly meetings with instructional team and mid-level leaders that motivate and manage toward important college ready habits in students (PREP score, lifework, grades, and reducing retention risk)
  • Prepare presentations for internal and external staff that motivate stakeholders toward specific action

Administrative Duties:

  • In conjunction with principal(s), responsible for creating master calendar, daily and transition schedules
  • Assist with beginning and end of day logistical responsibilities
  • Participate in regular staff development meetings and make content-appropriate presentations and professional development sessions as requested by school leadership
  • Stay abreast of developments in the field by attending Kauffman School approved trainings and workshops that bear upon the implementation and evaluation of Kauffman School program and effectiveness

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree required, Master degree preferred (mathematics, engineering, education, business, social science, statistics or related field). Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting education data in a school, district, non-profit or policy environment
  • Proficiency using Excel, Stata, Tableau, Power BI, or other data analysis tool accurately and efficiently on a daily basis
  • Experience with PowerSchool or other student information systems, or experience administering a complex data system for many users
  • Ability to use Excel expertly and efficiently to transform raw data sets into user-friendly tools and dashboards
  • Demonstrated success delivering a major project on time and within constraints using project management tools, detailed logistics plans, and maintaining strong vendor relationships
