Customer Data Specialist(San Mateo, CA)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 14 million students worldwide, is seeking a Customer Data Specialist to support our key accounts by providing data insights that help schools and districts improve their implementation of IXL and maximize IXL’s benefits for their students.

In this cross-functional role, you will work with the Strategic Account Management and Marketing teams to understand and deliver on the data needs of our high-priority customers. You’ll create a range of custom reports that both meet these requirements and tell a compelling story about IXL’s impact on students and schools. The ideal candidate is highly comfortable with analyzing and manipulating data, detail-oriented, organized, and a strong communicator.

*This is a full-time position in our San Mateo, CA office with a hybrid work schedule.*


  • Gather and analyze data from strategic district accounts and develop custom reports that help those districts understand their IXL usage and its impact on student growth and progress
  • Meet regularly with Strategic Account Management to understand customer data requests; communicate directly with customers on requests when needed
  • Develop a strong understanding of IXL’s databases; create and improve processes for custom data reporting, working with the Engineering team on complex data requests as needed
  • Partner with marketing to ensure customer reports reflect IXL product messaging and brand guidelines


  • BA/BS degree in mathematics, data analytics, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in a similar role (e.g. as a data analyst, a data-driven customer success or marketing role, etc)
  • Strong analytical skills and experience converting complex data into easy-to-understand reports and visualizations
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets required; experience with a scripting language such as R or Python is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to work effectively across teams
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills: You are able to consider an idea from all angles, ask smart questions, and make thoughtful decisions that align with company needs and values
  • Experience managing confidential customer data and information appropriately
