Customer and Business Insights Analyst

The Flatiron School is seeking a Customer Insights Analyst to join our rapidly growing team!

Data-driven analysis is an integral part of Flatiron’s ability to successfully grow and maintain our student outcomes. The Customer & Business Insights Analyst will be responsible for rigorous analysis of customer behavior, lifecycle and key business metrics. The analyst will work cross-functionally throughout the organization to develop an analytical framework that helps us understand how to optimize and scale every part of our business from acquisition, admissions, education, product, curriculum and career services - ultimately to maintain our exceptional outcomes for students as we grow.

The ideal candidate will be deeply inquisitive, ask powerful questions, use strong quantitative and analytical approaches to surface insights for leaders across our organization. You will be a truth seeker and possess a thirst to explain the business and customer behavior with data. This will enable you to perform in-depth analyses as well communicate simply to a diverse audience. You will become our trusted expert and advisor on interpreting data and what actions to take based on it. And you know that data insights alone are not enough - you will be able to create a compelling narrative and action plan in collaboration with leaders across Flatiron School.

The Customer Insights Analyst will demonstrate:

  • Business Acumen: Being so closely tied to data, you will often spot insights first and usuallyvalidate/invalidate them first. This will put you in a unique position to learn from data and operate as a tactical business consultant, translating observations to shared knowledge and rapid iterations on our approach. Your analytical projects will be aligned with key business goals and questions. You will have the ability to persuade and influence business leaders.
    • Understand the key levers of our business, KPIs, business priorities and questions
    • Prioritize projects based on needs across the organization and their relative impact
    • Develop insights and narratives to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical staff, surfacing actionable insights that address their challenges.
    • Build trust across the company through assessment, education and partnership
  • Design & Analysis: At the heart of developing actionable insights for our business is the ability operate analytically. Your efforts will be led through a quantitative lens with results that can usually be expressed mathematically. You will build analytic models grounded in math and statistics.
    • Design strategies and methodologies to mine data sources for strategic insights
    • Collaborate with the admissions and marketing team to understand business questions and build a narrative around the where we can optimize our processes and tactics.
    • Gather, synthesize, and establish key insights and benchmarks on Flatiron School student behavior and platform efficacy through use of internal data - collaborating with our product and education teams.
    • Deliver actionable strategic and tactical insights using data and sound analytic methods
    • Recognize patterns and make connections across the business
    • Develop predictive models and robust segmentation schemas to address business needs in maintaining and increasing acquisition, engagement and ultimately growth of customer lifetime value
  • Technology Skills: Your creativity and ingenuity will enable you to use technical tools and skills to create rapid solutions. Some data sets may be easy to access and analyze in Excel, others may require prototyping and integration of multiple data sets. Whatever is required, you are comfortable navigating your way through our current systems as well as building toward more scaleable solutions. You think in terms of data structure. You can convert a business challenge into a data challenge, breaking it down into components and recomposing in a solvable way.
    • Answer data-related business questions in a timely manner utilizing a variety of available data sources and tools
    • Comfort with languages, as needed, such as SQL, Python, R and SAS
    • Agility in using Business Intelligence platforms
  • Reporting: Your desire to produce actionable insights will ensure we have a regular cadence and consistency in our reporting and can answer new questions in a timely fashion.
    • Produce monthly/weekly reports with useful insights
    • Work with colleagues to ensure best practices with data analysis, maintaining consistency and reliability across reports
    • Respond to daily requests from admissions, marketing and executive management as to their data needs.
    • Gather data on competitors as is needed; analyzes and compares such competitive factors.

A successful Customer Insights Analyst is:

  • Scrappy, results oriented, organized, able to handle multiple priorities and concurrent discussions
  • Outstanding with prioritization, analytical, quantitative, and follow-up skills
  • Collaborative in cross-functional teams and functional with disparate systems
  • Excited to work in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient in math, statistics, economics, engineering (or sociology/ psychology with strong statistical background) or a related field
  • Has 1-3+ years of experience in a business/data analyst or similar role
  • Experience with predictive modeling and segmentation a plus
  • Strategy consulting background or MBA is a plus
