Soomo Learning is seeking a talented Project Manager to oversee and coordinate the production of digital textbooks.

Since 2004 Soomo Learning has been partnering with institutions to develop high-quality, customizable, interactive digital textbooks for higher education. Their founding mission is to “create resources that work better and cost less than a traditional textbook.” Because this requires much more than simply changing a textbook, Soomo has focused on improving student outcomes through collaboration with faculty, data-informed iteration, and careful attention to the specific problems at hand. They have become an organization built to uncover the teaching strategies and technical tools that will best enable student success in any given course. Soomo provides a broad range of services, technology, and content development for the design, delivery, and improvement of online and blended learning courses.

Overview and Requirements

This is a mid-level, full-time position in a small, collegial, and nimble company. 

The Project Manager will be responsible for a variety of tasks which include; managing, engaging in, and coordinating the successful development of online webtexts. The successful applicant will be flexible and skilled in the following areas; managing projects, ensuring alignment to quality standards and learning outcomes, designing, curating, and editing content, copyediting, and professional and productive communication. 

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree required, Master’s preferred.

Minimum Experience: 3-5 years’ experience managing multiple curriculum development projects

Position Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the development of new and existing webtexts that align with course competencies provided by partner institutions in higher education
  • Designing, curating, and editing content and assessments for publication as webtexts on the Soomo Platform
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure that webtext content is aligned with instructional goals and conforms to Soomo editorial guidelines and accessibility standards
  • Coordinating with all stakeholders on the release of new and updated webtexts
  • Monitoring webtext performance and suggesting updates to improve student learning and course success
  • Maintaining and developing processes to ensure the quality and integrity of each publication

  • The ability to engage with statistics to analyze student usage patterns and an inquisitive spirit for finding anomalies and chasing down explanations
  • Strong copy editing skills with experience conforming to editorial and style standards
  • Demonstrated ability to produce error-free work in fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong technical skills using software such as Word, Pages, and Excel and some familiarity with HTML
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and incorporate new skills and knowledge into daily work
  • A willingness to ask questions
