Skillcrush - New York or Remote - Full time

Skillcrush is on the hunt for an experienced Curriculum Writer to join our Curriculum team! This is a full-time, mid-senior level role.

The Curriculum team at Skillcrush designs and develops interactive online learning content to help students transform their careers. As a Curriculum Writer, you’ll be writing new curricula and improving existing content, both on your own and in collaboration with others.

Our ideal candidate will first and foremost have exemplary writing skills. You should have proven ability to organize and write clear technical content quickly yet thoroughly, explain complex concepts simply and succinctly, adapt content voice and style for different purposes and audiences, and pair with subject matter experts to create technically accurate content.

In this role, you’ll write clean, organized instructional content for our students in various online formats. You should be able to receive and incorporate feedback from colleagues and subject matter experts with ease. Outlining, writing, editing, and hitting weekly deadlines are no sweat for you.

You should be familiar with HTML, CSS, and UX/web design basics. In addition, proficiency in one or more of the following technical areas is also required: JavaScript, WordPress development, PHP, Python, Django, APIs, SQL, data science/analytics, or other programming languages.

  • Research, outline, write, and edit instructional content for an online student audience, including for video scripts, lesson steps, practice exercises, quizzes, worksheets, templates, and other instructional materials.
  • Work with other writers and/or subject matter experts to write learning goals, class outlines, technical lesson content, class projects, and templates.
  • Work with designers and video editors to develop graphics, gifs or short animations, design comps, and other visual materials to accompany learning content.
  • Write clear, actionable content that meets Skillcrush’s voice, style, and quality standards.
  • Ensure that all tasks are completed on time and regular deadlines are met, proactively communicating needs and potential roadblocks.
  • Review curriculum metrics and revise content to increase learning effectiveness and retention.
  • Conduct user interviews to gather student insights and validate curriculum opportunities and challenges.
  • Document internal processes, guidelines, and instructions.

  • Professional experience as a writer.
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, basic UX/web design, and other technical skills such as JavaScript or PHP.
  • Experience organizing, writing, and formatting content for an online environment.
  • Passion for writing (you’ll be doing a lot of it, after all!) and crafting engaging, effective instructional content in the Skillcrush voice and style.
  • Experience collaborating successfully with other writers and subject matter experts to create content that meets clarity, accuracy, and quality standards.
  • Experience developing long-form technical and/or learning content (classes, guides, articles, manuals, etc.).
  • Ability to rapidly compile information from subject matter experts, research, and other sources and distill it into organized, actionable content.
  • Ability to explain complicated technical concepts to a beginner audience in clear, digestible steps.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members successfully and give, receive, and incorporate feedback positively and constructively.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while balancing multiple projects.
  • Comfort jumping in to help others with various tasks and problem-solving as needed.
  • Access to a reliable, high-speed Internet connection.

  • Experience writing e-learning content using instructional design best practices, such as subject-centered curriculum, backward planning, scaffolding, ADDIE, and/or rapid e-learning.
  • Experience creating at least one online class from start to finish.
  • Background in web development.
  • Experience using WordPress and/or WP Courseware to organize and publish content.
  • Experience using JIRA, GitHub, Camtasia, Confluence, and/or Slack.
