Curriculum Developer and Project Owner

Reading Horizons - Kaysville, Utah - Full time

This is an in-office, full-time, salaried position at a growing literacy company. At Reading Horizons, we believe that reading is for everyone, and we aim to improve literacy skills through dynamic direction instruction materials and software products.


  • Work with the Reading Horizons Curriculum Director within the Reading Horizons product development process to manage the development of all Reading Horizons Discovery® curriculum, including, but not limited to, the following:
    • Review and revise existing content for the Reading Horizons Discovery software, including lesson content and student assessments
    • Review and revise existing content for Reading Horizons Discovery direct instruction materials, including Teacher's Manuals and supplementary teacher and student materials
    • Write new content for software and direct instruction materials, as needed
    • Assist with making curriculum decisions, such as determining how to display student reports, increasing student engagement, and enhancing implementation of blended learning
    • Collaborate with Reading Horizons curriculum committees and current Reading Horizons Discovery users to ensure the curriculum is culturally appropriate and is filling students’ and teachers’ needs
    • Collaborate with other content writers on Reading Horizons Discovery writing efforts
    • Collaborate with software developers on Reading Horizons Discovery software development
    • Provide necessary training on new Reading Horizons Discovery products and developments
    • Pilot Reading Horizons Discovery products; gather and synthesize feedback to inform and validate curriculum changes
    • Manage the Reading Horizons Discovery online materials on the Reading Horizons Accelerate website
    • Generate ideas for new product development, as needed
    • Maintain and coordinate consistent, on-going reviews of Reading Horizons Discovery products for regular reprint and software updates
    • Provide documentation for all stages in the product development process


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education
  • Experience with teaching early elementary reading/literacy in the classroom
  • Experience with using technology in the classroom
  • Experience with curriculum development and design
  • Intermediate to advanced computer experience and proficiency
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience with the Reading Horizons method, or ability to quickly and thoroughly learn the Reading Horizons method
  • Must be willing to relocate or commute daily to Kaysville, Utah area if not already local


  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Excellent editing and proofreading skills to produce error-free documents
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills; ability to solve problems
  • Experience with creating and/or implementing blended learning environments
  • Creative ability to introduce and develop new ideas
  • Familiarity with software development
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, tools specific to software development such as Jira, Pivotal Tracker, and Confluence
  • Experience working with beginning and struggling readers
