We are seeking a part-time Social Studies Curriculum Associate to support the social studies team in the development of assessment products by creating, reviewing, formatting and revising social studies test items. Certica provides social studies benchmark assessments and a test item bank for school districts in Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The ideal candidate will have a broad range of social studies content knowledge and will be able to work both independently and collaboratively with other members of the team. This is a great role for an educator who has a passion for supporting districts and schools in their quest for improving student outcomes.

This position will be in our Durham, North Carolina office.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and collaboratively with the social studies team in writing, reviewing, and revising test items based on state social studies standards and grade-level appropriateness to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Assemble and review assessments at multiple grade levels and content areas.
  • Create and input technology-enhanced items into an online system.
  • Assist in maintaining social studies items in a large test item bank, including writing new items for the bank on a continuous basis.
  • Align existing items to changing state standards.
  • Participate in creation of curriculum documents such as pacing guide and sample questions.

Skills and Professional Experience:

  • Strong command of social studies/history content;
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Experience teaching social studies at the middle or high school level;
  • Capacity to and willingness to run a project while also supporting others’ projects are essential;
  • Excellent communication and people skills;
  • Ability to be a critical thinker who is able to give and receive constructive feedback;
  • Ability to resolve and respond to client feedback;
  • Ability to adapt and utilize technology tools;
  • Proficiency in working with new software and performing a variety of tasks on the computer;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, primarily Outlook, Word and Excel
