Contract Scrum Master, Research

The Scrum Master acts as a servant leader for the Research and Learning Engineering team and potentially other teams. This role is responsible for ensuring the team is effectively using Agile principles and Scrum practices to complete and deliver high-quality educational research and learning engineering initiatives on a regular cadence. The Scrum Master partners with the team and others in the Agile Program Management Office for planning, backlog management, and facilitation.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Guiding the team to produce quality results using Agile/Scrum principles and practices
  • Ensure collaborative culture exists within team throughout the planning phase, supports proper documentation of requirements, and helps support acceptance criteria definition
  • Preparing for, facilitating and following up on actions for all Scrum ceremonies including grooming, planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives
  • Creating and maintaining information radiators that track progress, keep teams focused, promote transparency, and serve as inputs for improvement
  • Create systems, organize, and manage program milestones, deliverables, and timelines for all active research
  • Protecting the team’s ability to deliver by removing impediments that could prevent the team from accomplishing its sprint goals.
  • Building a trusting and safe environment
  • Facilitating discussion, helping the team make decisions, and mediating through conflicts
  • Giving feedback to the team and helping them to continually evolve the process and seek continuous improvement and greater efficiency
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information with the goal of building trust
  • Providing support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible and leading by example
  • Fostering the team’s ability to self-organize through an attitude of empowerment

Here's what you'll need:

  • Scrum Master Certification and/or SAFe Agile certification or practice
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with educational research teams, with at least 1 year as Scrum Master for an educational team using Agile/Scrum principles and practices
  • Experience with understanding complex cross functional business unit requirements and the impact within an Agile environment
  • Understand basic fundamentals of iterative software development
  • Solid understanding and application of servant leadership - must be able to garner respect from the team and be willing to get own hands dirty to get the job done
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and coaching skills
  • Strong facilitation, conflict resolution, negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Ability to apply situational awareness to identify and prevent problems
  • Knowledge of techniques for adapting Scrum practices to research projects
  • Intermediate level proficiency of Agile project management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Rally, VersionOne
  • Nice to have Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, and SmartSheet
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be self-motivated, dedicated and have the ability and desire to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
