Content Editor - ELA (Freelance)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by over 14 million students, is seeking a creative and detail-oriented editor to join our content development team.

In this role, you will work closely with writers and curriculum designers to create eloquent and engaging language arts content for grades PK-12. We are especially interested in hiring someone who can fine-tune middle and high school content for reading comprehension and writer's craft activities.

This is a remote, 1099 consulting role for three months with a possible extension.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Communicating with curriculum designers in a professional and dependable manner
• Providing clear, precise, actionable feedback to content writers
• Reviewing content to ensure that it is:
  • factually accurate
  • clear, cohesive, and organized
  • free from grammar and usage errors
  • informative, engaging, and grade-level appropriate
  • reflective of project-specific guidelines and sample items
  • aligned to an in-house style guide and the Chicago Manual of Style

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• BA/BS degree, preferably in English, creative writing, or a related field
• Deep knowledge of English grammar and conventions
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to apply conventions consistently
• Knowledge of students' understanding and ability levels in grades K-12
• Ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects simultaneously
• Previous professional content editing and copy editing experience (required)
• Experience editing for educational, academic, or technical publications (preferred)
• Experience using online content management and communication systems (preferred)
