Content Curator - Modifications for English Learners and Students with Disabilities

BetterLesson - Cambridge, Massachusetts or Remote - Part time

About Us

BetterLesson empowers K-12 teachers to build a modern classroom: learner-centered, culturally responsive, and personalized. Instead of the conventional one-size-fits-all professional development format for educators, BetterLesson supports teachers in a way that’s personalized and continuous -- using a mix of remote 1:1 coaching, remote team coaching, remote workshops, and in-person workshops, all supported by the BetterLesson Lab software. We match each teacher with a world-class coach and then leverage our technology to suggest customized teaching strategies, to measure impact on student learning, and to improve teaching practice continuously through rapid iteration. This process leads to off-the-charts teacher love (our data shows teachers love BetterLesson more than Apple users love their iPhones), high administrator engagement, and, most importantly, dramatic teacher and student growth.

BetterLesson has raised over $30M of venture capital and grant funding, serves over 200 school districts, sees 850K+ monthly active users accessing our online lessons and strategies, and is expanding quickly.

We are a growing team of teaching practice geeks, educational opportunity devotees, and product development specialists. We place tremendous value on our company’s roots and culture: a shared passion to transform professional learning for educators at scale and a sense of urgency to achieve this vision on behalf of students. All candidates should have the experience, competence, and enthusiasm to dive into our highly dynamic organization headfirst and rapidly solve complex, exciting, and interconnected problems. We offer a unique opportunity to join a small team, have flexible hours, and make a massive impact on our education system.

Role

The Instructional Content team supports BetterLesson to assert a bold and innovative point of view around the future of high-quality, impactful, and practical instruction. Our team is responsible for the creation and curation of a variety of teacher- and instructional coach-facing instructional content that supports the pedagogical vision of BetterLesson. This content drives the BetterLesson PD product that, in turn, supports thousands of teachers across the country who want to drive their own professional learning.

BetterLesson has published over 400 Instructional Strategies in our resource library. These strategies provide ready-to-use resources and step-by-step guidance to help education professionals grow in their practice. We believe our strategies can be used in almost any classroom. In order to ensure our strategies can be used by educators in all settings, we are looking for someone with expertise working with Students with Disabilities and English Learners to write paragraph-length modifications for 100 of our instructional strategies that describe how to use each strategy purposefully when working with students who will benefit from targeted support.

You will focus on:

  1. Writing Modifications for English Learners: Write clear, easy-to-implement instructions for teachers to modify instructional strategies to support the skills of language acquisition: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  2. Writing Modifications for Students with Disabilities: Write clear, easy-to-implement instructions for teachers to modify instructional strategies to support the individual needs of students with disabilities.

You are:

  • passionate about helping teachers become more student-centered in their practice
  • trained in best practices and/or certified to teach students with disabilities and English Learners
  • experienced in teaching students with disabilities and English Learners
  • a clear and professional writer, with excellent spelling and grammar
  • open to feedback and revision as part of the writing process
  • able to take initiative and think creatively about how to support educators
  • comfortable working in Google suite

Location:

  • Cambridge, MA or Remote

This is a temporary, part-time role and is expected to end on June 30, 2020 unless mutually agreed to extend based on business necessity.

Additionally, you have the option to submit a tailored cover letter detailing your interest in the role and the experiences that you will bring to bear.
