CodeSpeak Labs - New York, NY - Part time

CodeSpeak Labs - New York, NY - Part time

Apply for this job

CodeSpeak Labs is hiring for two roles to support our work in New York City; Coaches and Teaching Assistants.

Both roles are part time, offering between 1-20 hours per week. Once you’re accepted into the ranks of CodeSpeak Labs Coaches, we’ll match you up with classes and students based on your skills and availability. Both coaches and TAs should be enthusiastic, committed individuals who love helping kids learn and solve problems.

CodeSpeak Labs takes a lab-based approach; the focus is on students doing rather than listening to lectures or reading textbooks. Our staff guide students through activities which progressively develop their coding skills. Through each stage of the program, students build working websites, apps, games, and more, and coaches send parents and school administrators regular progress updates via email with links to student work.

Job Descriptions:

1) Coach: Someone who has experience working with students in the classroom or in other educational settings, with an interest in learning more about computer science and coding. Ideal for graduate students in education, and consultants/freelancers. CodeSpeak Labs coaches are paid $20-30 per hour depending on their experience.

2) Teaching Assistant: Someone who has experience as a developer/engineer or is currently in school pursuing a degree in Computer Science, and has an interest in working with students in grades K-12. Ideal for undergraduate, graduate students and/or consultants/freelancers. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate past experience working with kids (camp counselors, babysitting, etc). This is a stepping stone position for individuals who aim to be promoted to Coach. TAs are paid $15-20 per hour.

Requirements

  • Infectious Enthusiasm!: You believe all kids can learn to code.
  • Experience working with youth, especially as results-oriented teacher or tutor.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly: You love feedback and constant improvement.
  • Computer science skills: No prior CS experience necessary for entry level coaches. Applicants with experience with HTML/CSS, Javascript, and Python will have priority to work with our advanced students, have opportunities to do teacher training and curriculum development, and have a higher starting hourly rate.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
