Chief Innovation Officer

CoSN - Washington D.C., District of Columbia - Full time

The Chief Innovation Officer is a leader reporting directly to the CEO with the experience to inspire CoSN growth. This is a new management position responsible for overseeing CoSN’s continued innovation necessary to accomplish our mission. The position is responsible for cultivating new strategies and resource opportunities, particularly from foundations and new funding partners. This position will be instrumental in working with the CEO and senior leadership to implement the CoSN Strategic Plan and be an evangelist to the broader community. The position will be available beginning September 1, 2018. This is a full-time exempt position.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee the overall innovation strategies essential to position CoSN on the leading edge of education technology.

Work with the Board of Directors, senior leadership team and staff to develop and execute CoSN’s strategic plan with ambitious and achievable success reflected in our annual report card.

Identify and nurture new prospective partners that share CoSN’s vision and mission, particularly in the foundation and philanthropic community.

Help to expand and enhance CoSN’s external voice by serving as a CoSN storyteller for our strategic vision.

Manage CoSN’s current leadership initiatives to ensure that they align with our strategic vision and relate to changing education technology environment, identify gaps and recommend new resources needed to enhance our vision.

Essential skills required

Experience leading diverse collaborative teams and developing organization-wide strategies for program excellence.

Knowledge of changes in the education tech field, ability to identify future trends and identify how these trends and changes can be leveraged as part of CoSN’s innovation strategy.

Experience cultivating partnerships with foundations and philanthropic funders.

Well-developed presentation and communication skills, including comfort speaking publicly.

Proven track record of accomplishment in a nonprofit setting demonstrating programmatic impact and tangible experience in program analytics, measurement, and benchmarking.

Position Requirements:

Minimum bachelor’s degree is required, a Master’s Degree is preferred

7-10 years senior nonprofit management experience

Evidence of sustained professional achievements that demonstrate professional growth and use of innovation and creative solutions

Ability to convey vision of organization’s strategic future.

Solid understanding of technology, software applications and informational tools needed by an education technology professional association to be an innovative leader.

Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders, volunteers and staff.

Proven record of understanding successful strategic planning process and ongoing senior oversight.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
