Chief Impact Officer

Summary

The Chief Impact Officer leads the development of an organization-wide impact measurement, research, and assessment strategy in alignment with the organization's strategic plan. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Impact Officer will serve as a member of the leadership team and will lead the development of research, impact, and measurement programs internally and externally. This position empowers partner districts to use a Reading Horizons impact framework and tools to drive and report evidence of impact at scale. The Chief Impact Officer will be responsible for the oversight and development of a portfolio of research for our products, services, and implementation in collaboration with districts that validate the efficacy and/or impact. This position also helps identify market needs that provide Reading Horizons for opportunities for new product development, services, implementation, and innovation.

Impact Strategy and Agenda

  • Conceptualize the development and evolution of the theory of change for how Reading Horizons products, services, and implementation programs impact learners, teachers, and leaders.
  • Lead third-party provider to design and implement tier 1, 2, and 3 ESSA research studies.
  • Invest time and resources in training, developing, and coaching key stakeholder groups to accomplish goals and to build team members' knowledge.
  • Receive and provide feedback in a constructive way that builds confidence within the key stakeholder groups and across the organization.

Research and Development

  • Oversee a small team of employees and contractors dedicated to the development and implementation of a portfolio of internal research and development projects, in collaboration with districts.
  • Routinely conduct needs assessments and implement formative evaluations for Reading Horizons products, services, and implementation programs.
  • Validate the efficacy and/or impact of Reading Horizons products and services, as well as identify opportunities for new product development, services, implementation, and innovation.
  • Translate key findings and challenges to a variety of audiences that can be communicated, understood, and actionable.

Impact Programming and Community Partnerships

  • Oversee the development of collaborative impact and measurement programs that empowers districts to use the impact framework and tools to drive and report evidence of impact at scale.
  • Lead the design of impact and measurement frameworks and tools that assess the implementation and impact of Reading Horizons products and services.
  • Recruit and engage a broad sample of partner districts, community leaders, and literacy leaders to participate in learning collaboratives that empower them to use the measurement frameworks and tools in their own contexts and report their results to Reading Horizons.
  • Lead and facilitate learning collaboratives and impact programming at scale.
  • Oversee the development of internal and external reports that communicate findings to Reading Horizons customers and target market.

Organizational Effectiveness and Operational Improvement

  • Serve on the leadership team to ensure alignment of the impact strategy and agenda with the organization's strategic plan and product roadmap.
  • Oversee the measurement, evaluation, reporting, and improvement of the organizational strategy and associated outcomes, focusing on the value delivered to key stakeholders.
  • Provide executive-level project management, research and analytical expertise on special projects and intersectional work.
  • Facilitate organizational evaluation and goal-setting; work with the leadership team to identify measures of the organizational strategy, establish goals for their accomplishment, establish a process for monitoring progress toward those goals, and manage the quarterly reporting process; facilitate inquiry to attribute outcomes to specific strategic actions.
  • Serve as an expert project manager, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple concurrent workflows with both near- and long-term priorities and deadlines.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and ten (10) years of professional experience in data analysis, program evaluation, psychometrics, and/or statistics.
  • Clear evidence of the understanding of K-12 education industry and the educational service market.
  • Thorough knowledge of current educational best practices and theory related to research and evaluation methodology.
  • Experience leading and managing a diverse portfolio of collaborative research and evaluation projects with K-12 leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Deep knowledge of impact and measurement frameworks and tools, with clear experience leading K-12 leaders to engage in meaningful collaborative programming.
  • Proficient knowledge of literacy curriculum, adult learning science, implementation science, and culturally relevant teaching.
