Driven by the fundamental belief that everyone who works hard deserves the opportunity to succeed, Opportunity Junction’s mission is, “to help motivated Contra Costa County job seekers develop the skills and confidence to launch careers that lead to financial security.” Since its inception as a single job training and placement program in 2000, Opportunity Junction, headquartered in Antioch, has grown into a $3 million dollar organization, with 26 employees, whose hub provides training, mentoring, placement support and inspiration to struggling job seekers throughout Contra Costa.

Opportunity Junction’s programs have been impactful. Since 2000, alumni of the program have earned more than $100 million. These programs include administrative careers training, healthcare career pathways, career counseling, and placement assistance. In 2021, Opportunity Junction was honored with the East Bay Leadership Council’s Economic Justice award and the organization has also received a score of 100 on Charity Navigator, reflecting the strength of the programs and the integrity and transparency of their operations.

Opportunity Junction’s CEO of over 20 years of service is retiring in 2023. The board, staff and community of Opportunity Junction are seeking a seasoned executive who has a belief and passion for Opportunity Junction’s mission and vision moving forward. The new CEO will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Opportunity Junction’s vision, team, programs, and execution of its mission. Opportunity Junction is an inclusive and collaborative work environment, whose staff and board reflect the diversity of the constituents the organization serves.

The CEO will collaborate with the Board of Directors, the dedicated team of Opportunity Junction professionals, funders, and community partners in continuing Opportunity Junction’s track record as a leading service provider in the region. The CEO will be responsible for driving the organization’s fundraising efforts and being out in the community building and strengthening relationships with partners. The ideal candidate is a strong people manager and a strategic thinker who is creative and flexible, with the ability to pivot and adapt as needed by the market.


Key Responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer include:

Strategic Vision and Leadership:

  • Provide inspirational leadership and direction to the team and set an organizational culture that reflects the values of excellence, integrity, relationship, and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the Board to develop, refine, and communicate the organization’s strategy and strategic plan.
  • Lead implementation of the strategic plan, ensuring that the budget, staff, and priorities are aligned with Opportunity Junction’s core mission.
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals.
  • Establish effective decision-making processes that will enable Opportunity Junction to achieve its long and short-term goals and objectives.

Talent Leadership:

  • Manage Opportunity Junction senior leaders and staff, remaining deeply committed to developing and bringing out the strengths of all staff while holding them accountable for their goals and the organization’s desired outcomes.
  • Foster an environment that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion, setting the tone by valuing all people and their unique perspectives.
  • Ensuring strong and transparent communications with staff about financial and programmatic health of the organization.
  • Anticipate challenges and problems before they occur, and quickly lead others in implementing effective and realistic solutions in a timely manner.
  • Lead through influence, emotional intelligence, and amplifying the ideas of others.

Fundraising and External Affairs:

  • Ensure that revenue generation permits Opportunity Junction to make continuous progress towards the achievement of its mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect present needs and future potential.
  • Support fundraising efforts including approval and editing of grants and reports, developing partnerships with foundations and corporate program officers, participating in direct solicitation and appeals, and other needs that arise to support the development function.


A successful first year in this role for the new Chief Executive Officer will include:

  • Effective management transition through inspirational and inclusive leadership, with a focus on staff engagement and development.
  • Ensure funding continuity by establishing a strong presence in the community through reinforcing relationships with existing partner organizations and other community organizations, as well as identifying potential new partners and supporters.
  • Successful continued evaluation and implementation of new and/or expanded programs within the healthcare and administrative careers training programs to ensure participants are effectively prepared for entry-level employment and for career advancement.
  • Effectively working with the board of directors on strategic direction, fundraising, and maintaining donor relationships, while also cultivating potential new partnerships.


In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Chief Executive Officer candidate will be:

  • An accomplished leader with 10+ years of experience successfully managing organizations and staff in the education, nonprofit, and/or private sector.
  • A culturally competent and a self-reflective leader who understands the effects of race, class, ethnicity, income, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, and other issues of difference in society and is able to lead direct conversations about them.
  • A builder of authentic relationships with community partners, policymakers, funders and other supporters, able to engage with a variety of individuals and speaks in a clear and compelling manner about the organization’s goals and priorities.
  • An individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A strategic thinker who can anticipate potential issues and develop workable solutions.
  • Someone with financial acumen and budget acumen.
  • Someone with a track record of fundraising.


This position offers a competitive salary range of $180,000-$200,000 commensurate with experience, and robust benefits including medical, dental, and 403(b) plan. A generous PTO policy is offered starting with an accrual of 21 days and 16 holidays annually. More details can be provided upon request.
