TeachFX is hiring a Chief Educator Officer

Nothing makes a bigger impact on the quality of a child’s education than an effective teacher. TeachFX is a startup that superpowers teachers’ work — providing teachers with regular, automated feedback on the dialogue that’s happening in their classrooms. Using machine learning, our app shows teachers what portions of class are teacher talk vs. student talk, and we are also working on providing metrics like how well each individual student is participating, whether the teacher is asking open-ended or closed questions, whether unconscious biases may be surfacing in the classroom, and more.

I’m Jamie Poskin, the founder of TeachFX, and I’m a former high school teacher and tech entrepreneur who recently completed my MA in Education and MBA at Stanford. I also spent 7 years working as an experimental theater artist with The Wooster Group and my own company. My partner is Berk Coker, a Stanford BS/MS in Computer Science with a focus in machine learning. Berk has served as a Teaching Assistant for Stanford’s advanced level natural language processing courses, working with folks like Andrew Maas and Dan Jurafsky.

We have raised $1.5M from a number of investors including Ulu Ventures, Newfund, and Reach Capital, where we work as Entrepreneurs-in-Residence. We launched the product this fall and have seen great engagement from teachers, and we’ve developed relationships with several partners to scale rapidly over the coming year.

As Chief Educator Officer, you will lead all aspects of our company that face teachers, instructional coaches, principals, and administrators. Our team now is small (three people), and you will be a key leader in our company as we scale, eventually leading your own team. Because we are an early stage startup, the ability to be flexible, to embrace ambiguity, and to thrive outside of hierarchies is very important. Some other traits we’re looking for in our new teammate include: proactive leader, great communicator, applies a growth mindset, intellectually curious, creative, trustworthy, relationship builder, striving for excellence in all things, and committed to making the world a better place.

As Chief Educator Officer (“CEO”) you will work very closely with Jamie, the “other” CEO, on every aspect of TeachFX. In partnership with Jamie, you will be primarily responsible for the three key performance indicators of our organization:

1. CUSTOMER ACQUISITION. Getting as many teachers signed up for TeachFX as possible, which involves...

• demoing the product to teachers, principals, administrators, and other partners

• thought leadership, writing blog posts, speaking on panels, engaging experts in the field, attending conferences, being an expert on research related to classroom discourse

• creating all sales materials, using aggregated usage data from our app to demonstrate its efficacy

• designing and executing marketing/awareness campaigns and press placements

• forming partnerships with teacher training programs, PD providers, teachers unions, edtech companies, and other organizations which could be distribution channels for TeachFX

2. USER ENGAGEMENT. Getting teachers to use the app as much as possible, which involves...

• onboarding teachers and serving as an instructional “guru” when necessary

• designing and writing all communications with teachers currently using the app

• providing customer support to teachers and principals, relaying feedback to the product team

• helping administrators run successful free trials of the app with cohorts of their teachers

• eliciting feedback from teachers and principals to learn what’s working and what isn’t, and developing and implementing strategies to boost engagement

3. SALES. Getting as many schools and partners to pay for TeachFX as possible, which involves...

• leading communications with administrators and closing deals!

Does this sound like the right role for you? Maybe you are a former teacher or school leader looking to make impact at scale. Maybe you’ve done one or more of these roles at a larger edtech company and want to experience the thrill of an early stage startup. Or maybe you have an entirely different background/motivation. In any case, if you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you! Please send me your resume and a letter of interest ( and we’ll be in touch soon.

TeachFX is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
