Rocketship Education is seeking a leader for our Analytics team, which provides timely and actionable data to drive daily choices and strategic decisions to improve our school outcomes. The Associate Director, Analytics will manage a team of three staff who support assessments, analysis, and data systems. The A.D. will report to our Chief Program Officer who manages talent, analytics, and strategy.


Team Leadership

  • Develop and optimize systems to manage student data. Our student data systems includes a data warehouse and visualization tools that are linked to student information systems, assessment platforms, and online learning programs. e.g. Schoolzilla/Tableau, Illuminate, Powerschool.
  • Champion strong data-based decision making to drive programmatic and operational excellence through collaboration with organizational leaders in Schools, Achievement, Talent, Growth, and Communications.
  • Prioritize and facilitate analytics team workstreams and projects balancing needs across the organization
  • Refine team structures to support accountability, investment/ownership, and collaboration
  • Manage and support three direct reports to meet their objectives and development goals
  • Preserve team ethos of service orientation towards school staff and all network teams


  • Manage Assessment Coordinator to ensure consistent assessment administration, high completion rates, and satisfaction from schools, including providing direct support to school leaders
  • Develop structures and resources to ensure support across all regions and assessments
  • Collaborate with Achievement and Schools teams to ensure assessment suite decisions and implementation are timely, cohesive, and high leverage


  • Oversee process to develop and refine indicators of school, teacher, and student performance
  • Manage two analysts to provide timely and accurate analysis of our school results each data cycle including creation of visualizations and reports for school and network staff, senior leadership, and boards
  • Evaluate results of key program elements to understand strengths and challenges and support teams to use the analysis to drive improvement
  • Manage analysts to provide timely reporting to external stakeholders (i.e. authorizers, local and state education agencies)

Scalable Data Systems

  • Maintain and expand reliable, centralized, user-friendly student data systems that allow us to make data-driven decisions at all levels.
  • Oversee growth of data warehouse beyond student achievement data (e.g. attendance, parent data, talent data) building internal capacity to incorporate new data sources and collaborating with teams to better utilize this data
  • Keep up-to-speed on trends in the sector and ensure that appropriate tools and technologies are incorporated into the team’s work


Key Qualities and Skills:

  • Strong quantitative analysis and problem solving skills
  • Proficient with Excel and/or other data tools (i.e. Tableau, R, Python, SQL)
  • Exceptional project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work efficiently and intensely within an entrepreneurial environment
  • Some experience managing a team and/or individuals
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability tomake complicated topics understandable, relevant and actionable tokey stakeholders
  • A demonstrated passion for urban education and closing the opportunity gap


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis, data visualization, or outcomes evaluation
  • Work experience in K-12 education utilizing student achievement data to inform decisions strongly preferred
  • Authorized to work in the United States


The position will be based at our national headquarters in Redwood City, CA. We expect the A.D. to meet regularly with school and network staff in San Jose and Oakland, CA and travel occasionally to schools in Nashville, Milwaukee, and Washington, D.C.
