About the Role

The Central Initiatives (CI) Project Manager (PjM) strives for the completion of project work that is aligned to project objectives and stays within approved project costs. The PjM supports both software development projects as well as general projects.

Working in partnership with a Project Sponsor, the CI PjM will be responsible for leading project teams to project completion and success. S/he will need a deep understanding of project objectives in order to intelligently and efficiently guide team members to successful completion of a project. The CI PjM will report project status to stakeholders across projects. S/he will also work with Director of Program Initiatives on capacity planning and to ensure projects remain on-track, and with the Technical Project Manager to coordinate any software development efforts.

All roles at New Classrooms are expected to work on continuous improvement. The CI PjM will help Central Initiatives improve the way that our projects operate via improved tools and processes, as well as new communication methods and better status reporting. About the Team

The Central Initiatives department coordinates the organization’s internally focused cross functional projects, processes and resource management as well as ensuring that all centrally focused work is aligned with the organization’s strategic plan in order to support the achievement of the organization’s goals. To do this, the department will provide guidance and support to leaders across the organization to align division/department goals with the strategic plan. Additionally, the team will provide support for program design coordination, internal communication and executive support.

What You Would Do

  • Work with project sponsor to identify key project objectives and the resources necessary to deliver upon those objectives
  • Ensure all project team members and stakeholders understand the objectives of the project
  • Support the solution lead in guiding the team to develop a solution that meets the project objectives
  • Participate in Business Analyst-led requirements gathering
  • Ensure proper estimates are collected for all project work; work with project leads on iteration plans for work
  • Set up project management tools, and ensure completion of all project documentation
  • Monitor all tasks in our task management tool to keep all resources focused on the hghest priority work
  • Coordinate with other project managers responsible for interconnected projects
  • Determine project risks and appropriate mitigations
  • Capture and work to resolve issues and blocks that are decreasing resource efficiency and speed to completion
  • Ensure appropriate project closure, including after action reviews and documentation closeout

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully guide multiple full project life-cycles from concept to delivery
  • Comfort working within a defined process, but able to adapt to meet changing needs and priorities of the organization, including working within projects that may stop/restart at various stages of the project lifecycle
  • Comfort with complex concepts in technology and program design and ability to drive projects while leveraging knowledge from SMEs, stakeholder and other project members with deep understanding of complex concept
  • Natural tendency toward innovative and creative problem solving
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative start-up/entrepreneurial work environment
  • Ability to efficiently manage tasks and work items while simultaneously participating in new work definition
  • Experience with software development lifecycle a plus
  • Knowledge of the Teach To One Math program a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of project management experience

Compensation

Competitive for like size non-profits, depending on experience
