Learning Technologies Specialist

As a Learning Technologies Specialist you will apply your expertise in instructional technology systems and instructional design to assist UCSF faculty and staff in the effective implementation and use of enterprise educational technology systems. You will also support software, hardware, devices and tools for creating digital media and elearning content. As a Learning Tech Specialist you will provide a range of services, which include help desk support, customized training, user documentation and consulting services designed and tailored to meet the needs of the UCSF academic community.

The Learning Technologies Specialist plays key roles in the design and development of features and services provided by the campus learning management system (Moodle), which we call the Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE). You will regularly interface with technology support staff in the schools, classroom technology services, and campus Information Technology (IT) to resolve a wide range of instructional technology issues of moderate to complex scope. As a member of our Learning Tech team, you will track and monitor trends and new technologies in the field and recommend opportunities to employ new tools and approaches to meet user needs.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited four-year college/university
  • Three years’ experience providing customer support in the use of educational technologies
  • Experience selecting technology-based methods and techniques to obtain solutions to instructional and learning problems
  • Experience designing, managing, and providing support for courses developed using a learning management system
  • Knowledge of educational design practices and the effective use of technology to support educational activities
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering in-person training workshops
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience supporting educational technology in an academic setting
  • Ability to quickly prioritize projects and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in educational technology or related field
  • Experience designing, managing, and providing support for courses developed using the Moodle learning management system
  • Experience using and supporting online learning technologies, such as wikis, e-portfolios, web conferencing tools, and e-books
  • Demonstrated experience developing online training modules, including screen recordings and other videos, using tools such as Articulate Studio and Camtasia
  • Practical experience with web development technologies, such as HTML and CSS
  • Practical experience with image creation and manipulation using tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience designing, managing, and providing support for courses developed using the Moodle learning management system

LIBRARY / COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT The UCSF Library provides a wide range of services to support education, research, and patient care at UCSF. The Learning Technologies team is part of the staff of the Library Technologies Commons, whose mission is to enhance the teaching and learning process at UCSF by empowering faculty, students, and staff to create learning environments that encourage student engagement. The Library’s services in educational technology include management and user support for the campus online learning management system (CLE – Collaborative Learning Environment, powered by Moodle). The CLE is used across UCSF by the schools, graduate programs, graduate medical education, and administrative departments for delivering curricular content, instruction, assessments, and training. The Library works closely with the education teams in the schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing to coordinate services and provide support to address the needs of their programs and faculty.
