SAGE has a current opening for a Business Development Specialist in our Thousand Oaks, CA Office.


Corwin is currently seeking a Business Development Specialist. This position is responsible for identifying strategic partnerships and developing new markets for Corwin K-12 eLearning products that ultimately lead to revenue opportunities. This is a temporary (40/hrs per week) position. Other key responsibilities include delivering strategic sales presentations; creating business development collateral, sales proposals, and being on the frontline monitoring key market dynamics and trends related to K-12 teacher professional learning.

Business Development

  • Identifies K-12 decision makers and contact information for prospects via phone or internet searches.
  • Identifies potential business partners at the higher education, association, and organizational level via phone or internet searches.
  • Conducts targeted outreach to prospects to secure meetings (both in-person and virtual – phone/webinar) around Corwin eLearning products.
  • Generates institutional (B2B) and individual (B2C) leads, upsell opportunities and direct sales for Corwin eLearning products via phone campaigns, email campaigns, tradeshow attendance, meetings, list cultivation, etc.
  • Follows-up on eLearning leads generated by marketing, sales, professional learning, and other business development groups.
  • Maintains up-to-date client records and required activities in the customer database.
  • Works with the eLearning, professional learning, and global business development teams to create webinars, collateral, presentations and other resources as needed to assist in sales and partnership conversations.
  • Manages client and partner relationships, as needed.

Product and Market Knowledge

  • Conducts and leverages primary and secondary research to gain and maintain knowledge on the online professional learning market at the local and national level.
  • Communicates market and product feedback gleaned from telephone and in-person conversations to the product development, global business development and marketing teams across the organization.
  • Works with the Associate Director of Business Development and Partnerships to understand and track industry trends through data-driven market research, understand the competitive and policy landscape, and make recommendations around product positioning and partnership strategy based on the available set of information.

Partner and Customer Relations

  • Interacts professionally with prospective and existing partners and customers and follows up on requests in a timely manner.
  • Presents a positive image of SAGE and Corwin during contact with existing and prospective accounts; maintains an upbeat and ‘can-do’ attitude.


Include, but not limited to, the following:


  • Four-year college degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience.
  • Demonstrated record of success in academic or professional background.
  • Excellent computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent research skills, utilizing both primary and secondary sources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven project management and presentation skills.
  • Superior planning, time management, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strategic and creative thinker.
  • Demonstrated excellence in working with others.

  • Pleasant and persuasive telephone manner
  • Ethical and honest in all business relations


  • 3+ years business development or sales experience, particularly in the education industry, a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of K-12 and/or online learning environments, a plus.
  • Experience working with SalesForce or alternative CRM system, a plus.
  • Previous experience as a K-12 teacher or administrator, a HUGE plus.
