Author Training Manager

 Author Training Manager

The Author Training Manager will be responsible for managing, designing, developing, and implementing our training program for web-native, interactive textbook authors, including full-time employees as well as part-time employees and contractors. The program should include training on our pedagogical approach to interactive materials, tools and technology, our process, and our editorial style.

While the Author Training Manager will be hands-on in conducting training, this person will also manage the overall program, including involving existing staff in the process. He or she will work with leadership and managers to identify training needs for initial onboarding as well as continual improvement.


  • Manage, design, develop and implement the training program for interactive textbook authors and reviewers for both initial onboarding and continual improvement
  • Develop and maintain training materials, ensuring documentation is up to date
  • Develop a zyBook's author certification program to create a pool of potential authors and reviewers
  • Assess the effectiveness of the training program and regularly gather feedback from trainers and trainees for continual improvement
  • Periodically review authors' content to evaluate training effectiveness and identify when re-training may be needed
  • Host train-the-trainer sessions with existing staff of subject matter experts
  • Research and recommend new training methods and techniques
  • Conduct department-wide training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed
  • While author training will be the main focus, this person will also help coordinate training for other roles including project management and content engineering support.


  • BS or MS in a STEM field, ideally with 3+ years experience in training
  • Work experience as a Training Manager, Trainer, Training Facilitator or similar role
  • Knowledge of instructional design best practices and implementation
  • Ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate)
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern job training methods and techniques
  • Experience with e-learning platforms and tools
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer savvy with the ability to pick up new technology quickly
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization
  • Some programming experience a plus
  • 15% Travel required

The position is full-time. The position is remote, but candidates near Los Gatos, CA or Riverside, CA may enjoy more frequent in-person interactions with colleagues.
