Australian English Content Editor (Freelance)

IXL Learning - Remote - Part time

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 11 million students worldwide, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Content Editor with demonstrated expertise in Australian English language conventions to join our content development team. In this role, you will work closely with curriculum designers and content writers to ensure our language arts items are grammatically correct, grade appropriate, and suitable for use in the Australian edition of our product.

This is a 1099 consulting role that is remote for 3 months with possible extension. It is open to candidates in the US, UK, or Canada.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Ensuring overall quality and consistency of language arts content
  • Reviewing content for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to specifications
  • Reviewing content for grade-level appropriateness
  • Reviewing content to ensure it is appropriate for use in Australia and not overly US-centric
  • Copyediting to improve formatting and style
  • Correcting errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar following standard conventions of Australian English

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • BA/BS degree
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in an editing role
  • Impeccable knowledge of Australian English grammar and mechanics
  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity working with style manuals and guides (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style)
  • Understanding of K–12 students’ reading and knowledge levels
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets
  • Passion for English education
  • Experience teaching or working with K–12 students is a plus
