Athletics, Health, and Wellness Manager

Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of six PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. To learn more, visit to the Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness, the Athletics, Health and Wellness (AHW) Manager will be responsible for team sports operating during every season with a full schedule of practices and a competitive schedule for as many teams as possible at DREAM Charter Schools (DCS). The AHW Manager will coordinate with the AHW team to build a strong culture based on the legacy of sports-based youth development at DREAM through professional development, program design, and team development of part-time staff (coaches, event staff etc.) The AHW Manager will also drive the expansion of sports offerings and participation levels of DCS Sports and Academy programs.Responsibilities:

  • Coach development - High School Athletics and MLB Youth Academy Performance Teams and Culture (40%)
  • Manage and develop High School Athletics and the Academy to drive high quality coach practices to enhance their craft with scholar athletes' development at the core and build a strong DREAM Athletics culture
  • Lead coaches to create a strong culture of ongoing player recruitment to establish the HS Athletics and Academy as a best-in-class MLB Youth Academy
  • Driving program excellence (35%)
  • Develop and drive a culture and systems for data-driven player development through high quality and intentional practice sessions, competitive environments, and clinics to ensure multi-sport athletic performance, social-emotional development and healthy decision making
  • Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive environment for sports through robust partnerships with the Positive Coaching Alliance, Center for Healing and Justice through Sport, and other key coach training organizations to create a best-in-class healing-centered practice and competitive environment
  • Curriculum and instruction - Scholar Athletes Development, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition (15%)
  • Drive the development and implementation of session plans aligned with the standards of sports-specific milestones for each player
  • Collaborate to ensure that the athletics teams are a core positive experience for scholars to achieve their personal physical activity plan
  • Lead the formation of in-season and off-season programs to support a wide array of sports team participation, encouraging multi-sport participation
  • Collaborate with AHW managers and coordinators to implement and develop high quality strength and conditioning, nutrition, and team-building programs for teams and athletes
  • Drive implementation of injury prevention, strength and conditioning content with coaches alongside the Senior AHW Manager
  • Data and Operations (10%)
  • Ensure all enrollment and engagement data is collected accurately and in a timely manner to ensure consistent growth of athletics programs to drive inclusiveness through increasing engagement


  • Bachelors in Sports Management, Kinesiology or Health Exercise Physiology or equivalent;
  • Minimum 2-3 years of athletics planning and management experience, required;
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in athlete development and coach development;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent time-management skills: a self-starter who demonstrates initiative and follow-through;
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and competing priorities to achieve all deadlines;
  • Experience in youth development, preferred;
  • A team player mindset is a must
