Curriculum Specialist: Technology Implementation and Reading Literacy

CenterPoint is launching a new project to catalyze the quality of early literacy instruction in a New York-based district using high quality curricula and blended learning. The goal of the project is to develop a replicable, district-level professional learning model that supports districts in shifting from traditional methods of teaching to personalized instruction to change student outcomes and increase learning opportunities for previously underserved students. The Curriculum Specialist will serve as CenterPoint’s internal project lead, coordinating all aspects of the work, including:

- working directly with the New York-based district to develop protocols and provide curriculum support and professional learning;

- providing literacy and technology expertise to support the project;

- coordinating the project team of CenterPoint staff, consultants, and district teams; and

- overseeing project implementation.


Key responsibilities for the Curriculum Specialist include academic leadership and program management. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in early learning, literacy, and use of blended learning to support educators in teaching and learning
  • Manage development of professional learning and literacy instruction protocols and aligned educator resources to support district implementation of a blended literacy program
  • Work with the Chief Academic Officer, CenterPoint staff, and partner (Learning Forward) to develop a replicable, sustainable model for providing professional learning practices and tools districts need to make an effective transition to blended literacy that increases student achievement
  • Build relationship with the New York-based district team to ensure successful implementation of the project
  • Work directly with the New York-based district team to plan and coordinate activities, summer institutes, and training sessions for educators
  • Serve as project manager for CenterPoint’s blended literacy instruction project, including monitoring project schedules, budget, and quality of deliverables
  • Coordinate the work on the project, including work amongst all CenterPoint staff, content consultants, and partner
  • Work with CenterPoint’s Chief, Development and Partnerships to provide necessary updates and program reports to funder


  • Bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts, Early Education, Reading, or related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of elementary school teaching and/or instructional leadership in literacy and technology
  • Prior demonstrated experience implementing and/or leading a blended learning model of instruction
  • Prior demonstrated experience working with schools to shift educational programming, improve literacy instruction, and manage systems change
  • Prior demonstrated experience coordinating and managing a complex project with multiple goals, partners, and deliverables
  • Ability to successfully interact with the most senior levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across functions, levels, and units towards shared objectives
  • Ability and experience interacting with K-12 educators and district-level officials
  • Strong diplomatic skills in forging partnerships and effective working relationships internally and externally
    • Ability to be on-site regularly (district site is in Brooklyn and position is New York-based), working hand-in-hand with school educators to ensure successful implementation of program goals, strategies, and activities (on-site schedule will be determined in partnership with the district)
  • Comfort and experience working in a fast-paced and highly dynamic, entrepreneurial work environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and make deadlines while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
