Associate Director, Talent Development

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

CityBridge Education’s vision is for the nation’s capital to be the first city-level proof point for an excellent, equitable education system. A Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, we incubate the people, ideas, and conversations needed for equity-centered innovation in D.C.’s public schools. We do this by identifying talented leaders and school designers who can solve the educational needs and challenges of D.C. families, deploying particular effort to recruiting leaders of color. We then incubate and invest in the best of their ideas and, together, bring to market the next generation of transformational public schooling.

YOUR LEGACY

Your role will be to serve as our talent development manager, coach, and workshop co-facilitator for innovators as they scale their ideas to serve the young people of D.C. You will take an identity-affirming and strengths-based approach as you support aspiring entrepreneurs in designing and launching equitable and excellent educational ventures that aim to solve discrete educational problems; ventures include the creation of a new entity or a codified solution within an existing school.

You will be a funder and work relentlessly to ensure the success of our portfolio of investments. You will actively steward our brand, our standard of excellence, and commitment to equity in all that you do.

You will take a significant role in CityBridge Education’s late stage investment programming in the following ways:

     1. Talent Manager (30%):  You will help codify CityBridge’s approach to coaching. You will clarify our role in the earliest stages of programming through our later stages. You will implement best practices for adult development, including ways to foster entrepreneurs’ increased effectiveness. You will create systems and processes for measuring the impact of our coaching and facilitation on entrepreneurs’ solution creation and success.

     2. Coach (30%):  You will directly ensure individuals and teams have an empathetic sounding board, critical thought partnership, and liberatory mindset and culture. You will offer substantive coaching to five or six teams of educators at a time. You will rely on your emotional intelligence—and your understanding of how to strengthen it in others—as well as your experience moving teams forward to help educators build solutions to discrete educational problems, often in the form of a new venture or codified solution within an existing school. You will support recommendations for further investment.

     3. Facilitator (25%):  You will co-facilitate workshops based on the equityXdesign framework, which combines an equity mindset with the strategies and processes of design thinking. You will co-facilitate a series of monthly workshops for each four-month cohort (one in fall, one in spring).

     4. Collaborator (15%):  You will collaborate with the rest of our CityBridge team, particularly on our programmatic stages of support for innovators in our portfolio. You will partner closely with the Directors, Incubation. Your skills will be tapped to increase the impact and effectiveness of our organization.

YOU WILL EXCEL IF YOU HAVE:

  • 5+ years of aligned work experience (i.e. leadership coach, talent development manager, executive coach)
  • Facilitated adult learning and have a toolkit for coaching adults
  • Experience as an instructional coach, assistant principal, or other member of a school leadership team is preferred
  • Excellent critical thinking ability
  • Knowledge of urban education, curriculum, and instruction
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and understanding of the complexities of identity, power, and systemic racism
  • The capacity to toggle between multiple projects and workstreams, as well as between strategic planning and practical execution
  • Demonstrated growth mindset
  • Interest in working in an entrepreneurial environment

BENEFITS AND SALARY

The salary range for this position is $75,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package includes health (medical, dental, vision) insurance, 401k match, and unlimited vacation days. We expect the new Associate Director to commit to at least two years at CityBridge Education.
