Associate Director, Recruitment and Selection

CityBridge Education’s vision is for the nation’s capital to be the first city-level proof point for an excellent, equitable education system. A Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, we incubate the people, ideas, and conversations needed for equity-centered innovation in D.C.’s public schools. We do this by identifying talented leaders and school designers who can solve the educational needs and challenges of D.C. families, deploying particular effort to recruiting leaders of color. We then incubate and invest in the best of their ideas and, together, bring to market the next generation of transformational public schooling.


Your role will be to serve as the primary early stage program recruiter, a coach, and workshop co-facilitator for education innovators as they scale their ideas to serve the young people of D.C. You will take an identity-affirming and strengths-based approach as you support aspiring entrepreneurs in designing and launching equitable and excellent educational ventures that aim to solve discrete educational problems; ventures often include the creation of a new entity or a codified solution within an existing school.

You will be a funder and work relentlessly to ensure the success of our portfolio of investments. You will actively steward our brand, our standard of excellence, and commitment to equity in all that you do.

You will take a significant role in CityBridge Education’s early stage programming in the following ways:

     1. Recruiter (50%):  You will lead the team’s recruitment and selection processes for early stage programming. You will become an expert in sourcing and attracting participants to our programs. You will build a network of contacts and activate effective campaigns that strengthen the CityBridge brand. You will build a strong system for tracking recruitment and selection. You will lead the Incubation team’s selection efforts.

     2. Facilitator (20%):  You will co-facilitate workshops based on the equityXdesign framework, which combines an equity mindset with the strategies and processes of design thinking. You will lead pop-up workshops across the academic year with educators and education leaders in DC.

     3. Coach (15%):  You will ensure teams have an empathetic sounding board, critical thought partnership, and liberatory mindset and culture. You will rely on your emotional intelligence -- and your understanding of how to strengthen it in others -- as well as your experience moving teams forward to help educators build solutions to discrete educational problems, often in the form of a new venture or codified solution within an existing school.

     4. Collaborator (15%):  You will collaborate with the rest of our CityBridge team, particularly on our programmatic stages of support for innovators in our portfolio. You will partner closely with the Directors, Incubation, designing the workshops and supervising the other stages of CityBridge programming. You will track the progress of teams and use this data to inform your ongoing work.


  • 2-4 years of aligned work experience
  • Experience as a group facilitator, small to large groups
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of urban education
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and understanding of the complexities of identity, power, and systemic racism
  • The capacity to toggle between multiple projects and workstreams, as well as between strategic planning and practical execution
  • Demonstrated growth mindset
  • Interest in working in an entrepreneurial environment


The salary range for this position is $65,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package includes health (medical, dental, vision) insurance, 401k match, and unlimited vacation days. We expect the new Associate Director to commit to at least two years at CityBridge Education.
