ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

St. Joseph’s Preparatory is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent four-year college preparatory school located on the northern edge of center city Philadelphia. Founded in 1851, this highly selective, all male school serves nearly 1,000 young men “to become men for and with others.” Students come from diverse economic, geographic, racial and ethnic backgrounds from throughout the Philadelphia metropolitan area. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of Major Gifts and Alumni Relations is a key member of the Development and Alumni Relations Team and is responsible for setting and executing the strategy for engaging Prep alumni and parents through strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a proven track record of successful relationship building leading to meaningful engagement and philanthropic support. The Associate Director will manage a portfolio of prospects capable of making leadership annual fund gifts, identify those who are major gift prospects, and partner with Development Team Leadership in soliciting major gifts from the parent prospect pool.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for creating a strategic vision for engaging alumni and parents through events, programs, school visits, affinity groups, leadership councils (VEC & PAC) and other vehicles that result in a stronger relationship with the Prep and an awareness of the vision for the future of the school.
  • In partnership with the Director of Donor Engagement, create annual plan of activities and events at the Prep for the purpose of engaging alumni and parents in the mission and goals of the school.
  • In partnership with the Directors of Development and Development Operations, identify, cultivate and solicit potential donors in strategic geographic areas through personal visits around events.
  • Develops and oversees the strategic vision of the Alumni Association. Works with Alumni Board to execute meetings that match that vision. Creates alumni board including volunteer position titles and responsibilities, i.e. secretary, communications, events, mentoring, service, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of the Prep Fund, identifies alumni to serve as class leaders and creates communication that builds awareness of Prep news and the importance of class participation in the Prep Fund and Prep Events.
  • Plan and execute major events that engage key classes and constituencies including: Fall Multi-Class Reunion, Father-Son Communion Breakfast, Golden Hawks Luncheon, 50th Reunion, and Young Alumni Golf Outing. Responsibilities include creating the plan for each event and overseeing the execution of invitations, RSVPs, invitation lists, nametags, registration, batching, briefings, technology, facility bookings. Works closely with appropriate departments to execute plans.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of the Prep Fund, create and implement a fundraising plan for alumni celebrating reunions, including goals, strategy and communication plan.
  • In collaboration with the Manager of the Prep Fund, work with Senior Class to build awareness of the value of being a Prep alum, the impact of philanthropy at the Prep and develop a plan for the Senior Class gift program. Execute plan for obtaining senior class and young alumni data/contact information.
  • Work with Directors of Donor Engagement, Marketing and Communications to create messaging for alumni events and initiatives. Create a yearly communications plan including all alumni and parent events and promotion, electronic newsletters, printed materials and Conversations from 17th & Girard.
  • Assists with events throughout the year related to campaign or special initiatives.
  • Monitor and manage the alumni relations, Father-Son Communion Breakfast and reunion budgets.
  • Monitor and update the Prep’s LinkedIn page.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of the Prep Fund in creating a mentorship program, networking opportunities, internship program and other groups.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 alumni and parent leadership annual fund, major gift discovery, and parent major gift prospects. Prepare proposals for specific giving opportunities and create strategies for meaningful cultivation leading to solicitations.

Cultivate parent major gift prospects in partnership with VP of Institutional Advancement and Director of Development.

Cultivate parent major gift prospects and serve as Major Gift Discovery Officer in partnership with VP of Institutional Advancement and Director of Development.

Oversee and coordinate communication with assigned prospects including thanking the donor and other forms of stewardship. Promote positive donor relations with these individuals.

Maintains complete and timely records of contacts with prospects and volunteers.

Achieve a monthly personal visit goal of 12 visits and high-end annual fund solicitations goal of 10 per month.

Meet regularly with the Director of Development, the Major Gifts team and development team to update list of top prospects.

Interact with administrators, department chairs, faculty and advancement staff to consult on school needs; formulate proposal strategies and identify potential high level donors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree

Five + year of development experience or relevant sales experience.

Experience and track record in cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding high-end annual fund and major gift donors.

Excellent communication, presentation and leadership skills.

Ability to handle the execution of multiple job priorities concurrently.

Strong computer skills including aptitude in Microsoft and Google Suits as well as general savvy at navigating software programs, applications and customer relations management databases, preferably Blackbaud/NXT. Knowledge and understanding of social media platforms including: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with donors, volunteers and staff.

Understanding of and commitment to the mission of Jesuit and Catholic education at St. Joseph’s Prep.

Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends
