Position Overview

We are looking for an Associate Director of Data & Evaluation to join our relentlessly curious, entrepreneurial regional Data & Evaluation team. In this high impact position, the Associate Director of Data & Evaluation will lead our data infrastructure strategy and help shape our overall regional data strategy. We are looking for a data evangelist, who not only enjoys diving deep into data sets and the nuances of data warehousing but is adept at building data literacy and championing a data-driven culture. This is a highly collaborative position, as the Associate Director of Data & Evaluation will work cross-functionally with several teams at our Regional Support Office in Oakland (BART-accessible) as well as with our Managing Directors of Schools. S/he will report to our regional Director of Data & Evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy and Team Leadership:

  • Lead our data infrastructure strategy
  • Partner with the Director of Data & Evaluation to set the team vision and budget and execute against it, including strategic planning, goal setting, capacity gauging and progress monitoring
  • Lead the technical coaching of direct members of the Data & Evaluation team as well as data-focused members of the Operations and KIPP Through College regional teams
  • Manage, coach and motivate team members
  • Lead through partnerships with one or more regional teams and consistently contribute to cross-functionally bringing the data perspective to organizational priorities
  • Bring a Human Centered Design (HCD) perspective to the development of new tools, working to understand goals, align on vision and plan rollout as well as tool development

Data Infrastructure and Visualization:

  • Oversee the structure, expansion, and maintenance of our data warehouse (data model development, ETL custom work, software tools, and documentation strategy); this is inclusive of individually executing on this work as well as coaching teammates on the best practice
  • Lead the enhancement and maintenance of our regional data portal
  • Lead and support on designing, building and maintaining powerful, sustainable and user-friendly data tools using Tableau and custom SQL reporting within our data warehouse

Data Analysis and Data Literacy:

  • Analyze school and student data, identifying trends and patterns and determining their implications for our practices in core areas such as teaching and learning, school culture, and talent
  • Create compelling narratives to encourage data-driven decision making
  • Collaborate with other regional teams, lead and support on developing training for teachers, staff and senior leaders on how to effectively use data dashboards


Experience & characteristics:

  • Track record of collaboration and teamwork, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker, with the ability to think critically about issues and solutions
  • Excellent people manager, with an ability to coach and motivate with a diversity, equity and inclusion lens
  • Extensive experience analyzing large datasets, with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Significant experience in database management and reporting
  • Highly resourceful, with demonstrated ability to learn and incorporate new data platforms/systems/software tools quickly and independently
  • Goal-oriented, with a high degree of initiative and creative problem-solving skills
  • Flexible, with strong project management capabilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of six years’ work experience
