As an Associate Data Scientist, you are aware of different types of statistical models and machine learning techniques that will enable the data science team to answer questions about large data. You will be responsible for transforming and manipulating structured and unstructured data into high-fidelity, usable inputs for products that have an education focus. As a member of this team, you will spend time along the entire path of the product development cycle to extract meaning from data by employing both descriptive and predictive techniques including building statistical models and preliminary data visualizations to writing code that implements the ideas to all users in an efficient manner.

You will take on responsibilities including:

  • - Processing structured and unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis, running data quality checks and doing analysis within the workflow of writing scripts in your favorite programming language
  • - Applying statistical concepts such as regression, time series, clustering, classification algorithms, etc., to analyze data and provide insights
  • - Monitoring existing metrics, analyzing data, and partnering with other internal teams to solve difficult problems that create a better customer experience
  • - Defining data methodologies, core metrics and statistical modeling frameworks for future solutions
  • - Conceptualizing ways to visualize data that can tell stories to a non-technical audience

  • - Clear, concise communication: You get your point across with the fewest, most impactful words. You can hold your own emailing district leaders, running project status calls and coordinating internal teams around process.
  • - Data savvy: You’re comfortable manipulating and wrangling data as needed and aggregating to complete analyses. You’ve got Excel and SQL under your belt and are proficient in either Python or R to build your models and test them.
  • - Team player: You thrive in a collaborative environment, partnering with other scientists, and engineers of all backgrounds and disciplines to bring analytical rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of predicting behaviors.

Qualifications

  • - Bachelor’s degree required, MA or recent PhD preferred
  • - Minimum 2+ years in building statistical and/or machine learning models in R or Python
  • - Experience with PostgreSQL or similar database technologies.
  • - Some experience with version control with code a plus (github and/or bitbucket).
  • - Proficiency in visualization software a plus (e.g, tableau and spotfire)
