Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School is seeking an Assistant Principal for its Lasallian Catholic, co-educational, secondary school to open in the summer of 2018 on the campus formerly home to Saint Elizabeth High School. The school is sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans.

The school will use the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) modeled after the successful programs at 32 Cristo Rey Network schools. All students are required to complete a college preparatory curriculum and participate in the Work Study Program. Under the Corporate Work Study Program, each student is employed five days per month by a local business or community agency to provide tuition assistance and complement the school’s on-site curricular program. The school is currently participating in the Replication Process of the Cristo Rey Network.

Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, St. Elizabeth Campus, is a diverse, Lasallian Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose, and service. A rigorous and personalized college preparatory curriculum integrated with a corporate work study experience prepares students to succeed in college and in life.

Anticipated Start Date

The Assistant Principal is expected to participate in Saturday sessions beginning in March to prepare for the summer program and academic school year. She/He will also be expected to co-direct, support, and teach during the Alpha Summer Institute from July 5, through July 27, 2018. The position is expected to begin full time on June 1, 2018.

Purpose

The Assistant Principal plays an integral role on the school’s Leadership Team. The AP will support the Principal in the instructional program, college readiness, professional development, and parent organization. The AP will oversee assessment, student retention, discipline and school culture. The AP serves as the key leader in the absence of the Principal.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Instructional Program

  • Oversee, lead and facilitate School Accreditation Procedures
  • Be in constant communication with College Board
  • Design and implement a system for Academic Support for all students that includes a metric of measurable outcomes across A-G curriculum that includes but is not limited to:
    • Peer tutoring program
    • Academic support program
  • Collaborate with Director of Wholeness and Director of Personalized Learning in creating an array of academic resources for parents/guardians of students in need of academic support
  • Track student academic infractions, including playing an intermediary role supporting both students and teachers for infractions
  • Maintain direct communication with Director of Personalized Learning, CWSP and counseling departments regarding students’ areas for growth at school, work and home

Faculty Support and Formation

  • Conduct Learning Walks with the Principal, Director of Personalized Learning and Instructional coach to provide real time feedback and coaching
  • Assist Director of Personalized Learning with development and implementation of curriculum
  • Work cooperatively with the CRDLS Administration to design faculty professional development
  • With the approval of the Principal, coordinate all aspects of requests of substitutes by absent teachers and keep track of teacher absences and substitutes’ assistance

Operations

  • Develop and implement plan for administering all required assessments and ensure proper and timely reporting of assessment data
  • Maintain accurate student records on essential student information

School Culture

  • Lead, manage, support creation and maintenance of student culture plan
  • In collaboration with Director of Personalized Learning, Director of Wholeness and the Principal, develop, implement and oversee a student retention plan
  • Lead and support the vision for effective school meetings, awards assemblies, school masses/prayer services
  • Collaborate with Director of Wholeness to develop and implement a graduated discipline plan focused on restorative justice practices and and provide faculty training
  • Record and track all discipline incidents through reflective practices and SIS

Other Responsibilities

  • Co-direct Alpha Summer Institute along with, Principal, Director of Personalized Learning and CWSP Leadership
  • Design and Co-teach a summer class on school culture, rules, and procedures
  • Serve as Facilitator for issues brought to the Student Accountability Council
  • Serve on the Admissions Committee to help build new classes of students
  • Assist the Principal in hiring new faculty and staff
  • Participate in the Emergency Preparedness program, including planning and executing emergency drills and revising the Emergency manual as needed
  • Develop a plan for the school’s parent organization and outreach
  • Attend regular parent organization meetings

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education and/or Educational Leadership
  • At least 5 years teaching in a high school
  • Experience in a high school leadership position
  • Candidate must be adept at building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students
  • Familiarity with Personalized Learning and Summit Schools a plus, but not required
  • Commitment to Lasallian Catholic Values of the school and the mission of the Cristo Rey Network and model
  • Experience in a leadership position
  • Spanish fluency preferred but not required (speaking, reading and writing)
  • Strong written and communication skills; detail oriented; team player; ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
  • Understands and embraces cultural backgrounds of students and families
  • Relentless focus on results, high level accountability, and willingness to do “whatever it takes”

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly interact with students, parents, staff and visitors
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time
  • Be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time
