Assistant Principal - Elementary

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under direction, performs as assistant principal, assists principals in directing the instructional programs; assists in various community leadership activities and in the operation of the school plants; participates in the evaluation of teachers and the student activities program; and performs related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by the principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Curriculum

Assists in interpreting and implementing the District-approved curriculum program according to the needs of the school assigned.E

Assists in providing and coordinating in-service training and opportunities for teaching and classified personnel.E

Assists in the effective use of curriculum guides and other teaching materials, supplies, and equipment.E

Assists in coordinating the categorically funded programs assigned to the school.E

Participates in the evaluation of teachers as assigned by the principal involved, and assists in the development of teaching objectives on a yearly basis as required under the Stull Bill.E

Participates in other curriculum activities as determined by the principal at the school.E

Management

Assists in the preparation of the school's budget and in the controlling expenditures at the school assigned.E

Assists in the guidance and discipline of individual students and confers with parents at the school assigned.E

Participates in the coordination of the operations, maintenance and the food service programs at the school assigned.E

Participates in regular certificated and classified staff meetings.E

Assists in communicating school policies and procedures, according to District guidelines and State legal requirements, at school assigned.E

Assists in interpreting school and District goals to parents and community leaders, and communicates with parents on pupil progress, needs and procedures.E

May coordinate the receipt and distribution of textbooks and supplies.E

Subject to call back for any emergencies at the assigned school.E

Supervises/evaluates teachers and classified staff designated by the principal.E

Assumes full responsibility for each school when principal is absent.E

Participates in all duties and responsibilities as directed by the principal, District Superintendent, or his designee(s)E

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Proper Administrative Credential.

Five (5) or more years of teaching experience, preferably at the K-6 grade level.

Masters Degree.

Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.

Meet district standards for physical and mental health.

Appearance, grooming, and personality that establish a desirable example.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Research in curriculum and staff development and in effective instructional practices.

Organization, activities, goals and objectives of an elementary school.

School law administration and applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.

Board and district policies, procedures and regulations.

Employee-employer relations law and employee contracts.

Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Oral and written communication skills.

ABILITY TO:

Promote a positive school climate for K-6 school assigned.

Organize, coordinate and administer assigned programs at an elementary school.

Assist the Principal with administration duties as assigned.

Maintain professional competence and growth through active participation in in-service and education, and in self-elected improvement programs.

Promote staff development through conferences, in-services, staff meetings, and recommending of university courses.

Encourage cooperative working relationships and high morale among staff members.

Direct, evaluate and supervise assigned staff.

Exercise positive leadership with students, teachers, staff, parents and the public in establishing a good learning environment for the school.

Plan and organize work.

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Complete work with many interruptions.

Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Prepare and deliver oral presentations.

Strive toward the development of positive attitudes with staff, teachers, students and parents.

LICENSE:
