The Team

The Analytics Team leads Rocketship’s data analysis, data systems building, and assessment execution. Working with a range of school data, from achievement to enrollment and parent engagement to talent, we provide timely and actionable data to drive daily choices and strategic decisions to improve our school outcomes. We also build and manage the systems that safely and efficiently store our organization’s data. Through our assessment execution work, we oversee the collection of data with high integrity and reliability.

The Position

At Rocketship, we strive to deliver personalized instruction based on developmentally appropriate, fair and valid assessments. We provide a wide range of assessments to give teachers and school leaders many opportunities to see student development formatively and summatively. We believe that those assessments must be proactively planned and logistically tight to enable our teachers to focus on their students. The Assessment Coordinator brings this vision to reality by coordinating and managing the staff, technology, operations, trainings, and student information systems that testing requires. The Assessment Coordinator works directly with regional leadership, School Leaders, and Network Support teams to program manage assessments including state testing, assessments for English Learners, and instructionally focused testing. Key responsibilities include:

Assessment planning and execution

You will be responsible for managing assessments for our schools across the network and overseeing general assessment policy across for the schools they coordinate. A typical day could include problem solving with content teams and school leaders virtually or in person, setting up assessment systems, training staff, creating new documentation to support teachers, or working directly with students in a testing environment. Our schools utilize a deeply data driven instructional model, so an integral part of the day-to-day work is supporting teams in creating plans that allow all teachers to collect and analyze the highest leverage data with the smallest possible disruption toinstruction.


As the assessment lead, you will also become an expert on accountability in each of our regions. This includes training all site-based coordinators, maintaining test security across all campuses, and ensuring all Rocketship schools understand and meet district and state requirements on time. You will also collaborate with Growth & Community Engagement, Legal, and other Network Support teams to lend your expertise on State assessments for state and district audits, accountability reports, and new region growth and startup.

Systems management

You will be the owner of all relevant assessment systems (e.g., Illuminate, EdCite, STEP, etc) as well as state assessment management systems for Common Core end of year testing. You will ensure the systems are up-to-date with current enrollment and staffing and providing training and resources for all levels of staff to create, administer, and analyze student assessment data. As our network grows, you will also lead the thinking around how to improve and support assessment systems at scale, supporting schools with direct problem solving. This systems management may also include related outputs, such as report cards.

Assessment tools, processes, and analysis

You will build the internal tools and processes to run scalable and effective assessments at Rocketship, including trainings, project management tools, and inventory or proctor management trackers. The assessment coordinator may also collaborate with school leaders and other members of the Analytics team to support data analysis and data systems building.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate, communicate, and monitor assessment set-up and execution across multiple schools
  • Collaborate with Network Support teams (e.g. STEM/Humanities, Operations, IT) to create and/or set up logistics for all major assessments
  • Ensure all state and local assessment requirements are met for district accountability
  • Train and thought partner with school leaders to create assessment plans and schedules
  • Problem solve through assessment administration issues - from student supports to security breaches
  • Observe and/or proctor assessments in partnership with school staff during major assessment rounds, working directly with students on occasion
  • Monitor assessments for completion and compliance, resolving issues in collaboration with other Network Support Team members
  • Report directly to the Senior Director of Strategy and Analytics


  • 4+ years of experience in education (school leadership experience preferred)
  • Confident & clear written and verbal communication
  • Excellent problem solving skills with a systems mindset
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working side-by-side with school and network leadership
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work streams with fixed deadlines concurrently
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational/planning skills are a must
  • Comfort in training and leading teams across multiple locations, virtually and in person
  • Demonstrated project management experience preferred
