OPPORTUNITY 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief of Staff is responsible for translating the long-term vision and goals of the CEO, and the organization more broadly, into action across the system, driving critical work across the Cabinet, the Leadership Team, the Home Office, and school sites. The Chief of Staff is a member of Cabinet, leads a team focused on strategy, communications and public affairs/relations, and works closely with our Home Office teams and school leaders. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced education professional with a proven track record in advising senior leaders, guiding large systems through transitions, and accomplishing critical deliverables on behalf of scholars and schools, as well as a demonstrated deep commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational leadership

Act as a strategic advisor to the CEO and serve as a proxy for the CEO to lead meetings and drive alignment and clarity across the organization.

Guide the organization through the transition to a new CEO and a vision grounded in diversity, equity and inclusion, deep cross-functional collaboration, and the principle that all of our work is school-facing and should be grounded in and centered on the school site experience.

In partnership with the CEO, lead the Home Office Leadership Team (Cabinet + VPs); set and lead the Leadership Team’s tactical rhythms and ensure a high level of Leadership Team functioning, collaboration, and team culture.

Strategic Planning & Implementation

Lead an inclusive, comprehensive multi-year strategic planning process that lives out the organization’s commitment to DEI and anti-racism and sets direction for the organization for the next 3-5 years.

Develop and execute an annual strategic planning and budgeting process based on multi-year strategic planning.

Oversee strategy for implementation of annual network-wide, cross-functional priorities and goals.

Communications & Public Affairs/Relations

Oversee public affairs/relations strategy, including across internal and external communications, advocacy and engagement, network and school site affairs, and navigation of the broader educational ecosystem in Los Angeles.

Manage creation and delivery of communications plans that lead to long-term brand-building and commitment to Alliance goals, while encompassing our diversity, equity, and inclusion, social justice, and educational equity values.

Set the vision for external-facing content to ensure consistent voice, tone, and key messages to best represent the organization.

Lead collaboration and coordination with the Alliance Foundation.

Team Leadership

Lead a diverse team, which encompasses strategy, communications and public affairs/relations.

Guide CEO support team to ensure excellence in staffing the CEO, ensuring that day-to-day time, resources, and work are well-managed and in alignment with network-wide priorities. 

Manage, coach, develop and support direct reports across functional areas that the COS role oversees. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

6+ years of progressive professional work experience in a related field; experience in K-12 urban education preferred;

Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred (MPA, MBA, or other relevant degree);

Outstanding project management and problem-solving skills Strong familiarity and fluency with the broader Los Angeles education ecosystem, including addressing issues facing charter schools;

Experience working in, navigating, and advising executives in complex organizational structures;

Ability to operate with excellence across both big-picture vision-setting and bridging big ideas with realities on the ground;

Ability to distill complicated concepts into highly effective communication and decision-making processes adapted for a variety of different stakeholders;

Commitment to the Alliance's core beliefs and philosophy to building a strong school culture where Alliance principals, teachers, staff, and parents work together to prepare scholars for success in college and future careers.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position offers a salary range of $170,000 - $220,000. In alignment with their commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for their team and offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education, as well as an employer-sponsored 403b plan annual contribution equal to 5% of regular earnings, and a comprehensive group health benefits package, including medical, dental and vision. This position is exempt. This position is remote and will work virtually in the greater Los Angeles area, with travel to school sites once public health conditions allow. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work from home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100.
